Two Canadian action performers list work on a third entry in Ubisoft's first-person shooter series; franchise has been dormant since 2008.
The Far Cry series has been dormant since Far Cry 2 was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in October of 2008. Now, however, it appears new life is being breathed into the franchise.
Two Canadian stuntmen have listed Far Cry 3 as a project they've contributed to on their resumes (captured via Google Docs by Superannuation). According to Lee Villeneuve's resume, he worked as a motion capture stunt performer on Far Cry 3.
The other stunt performer--Stephane Julien, an employee of Fast Motion Stunt Team--said he worked on the game in the same capacity.
Far Cry 2--which has sold over 1 million units--is a quasi-sequel to the Crytek-developed original was released for PCs in 2004. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and traded in the original's tropical locale for the African savanna, replete with megalomaniacal warlords, destructible environments, and dynamic weather effects.
Hopefully the team will have learnt a great deal after releasing Far Cry 2.
Taiga setting please.
Also, no infinitely respawning enemy checkpoints, better freeroam stuff and less weapon degredation.

Hopefully it's not Malaria Simulator 2011.
If this one turns out shit, I swear to god I will not be held accountable for what I do.
you're missing the most important issue here, which is why would you need stuntmen for a videogame
apart from mocap obviously
The Ubisoft Canada branch in Toronto is a 10 minute walk from my house =D
I applied to be a Software tester a week ago but still haven't heard back from them ):
What the fuck was Far Cry 2 anyway, it wasn't related to Far Cry 1 in any way
What the fuck was Far Cry 2 anyway, it wasn't related to Far Cry 1 in any way
well it was many things, but it was mostly shit
Far Cry 2 was so close to being good, but horrible design choices made it shit. Most things that was wrong could've been fixed so easily.
Slower weapon degradation, no respawning enemies, no malaria etc.
The original Far Cry was so completely different from the second I have no idea why they even called it Far Cry.

Money.
You could even say it was a far cry from Far Cry.

You answered your own question...
I just played through the first Far Cry again not too long ago, and holy shit did I forget how amazing it was to me. I want something like that again.
Far Cry 2 had the potential to be very good, but some poor design choices fucked it up.
Interested to see how they handle this one, but I wont hold my breath.

I prefer to say it was a far cry from a good game!
I couldn't find the farcry 2/series megathread so i'll post here. I just no-socped an assassination target from a moving vehicle. That was awesome. I was just hoping to get him to stop and shoot at me, but I actually got him.
and just so I'm on topic
Farcry 2 story is what it is. Part shit, part good. Without the jackal tapes there would have been little keeping me going. It was an interesting addition that you could actually choose whether to kill/abandon/heal wounded buddies.
Driving 5-10minutes (plus another 5-10 to clear out guard posts) after i've recieved a mission has to be done away with in Farcry 3.
fyi I never played Far Cry 1

I hope checkpoints are actually checkpoints instead of "shoot you in the face when you drive by"

I think having Trigens running around in Far Cry 2 would have made it a cosndierably better game, assuming the story had been made completely different to accommodate.

I disagree, the nonstop enemies and long travel times were really annoying but the shooting mechanics and AI were solid as fuck
Far Cry 2 was really good. Still could have been much, much better.

Long travels wouldn't have bothered me if the roads weren't so winding and branching and there weren't so many of those annoying checkpoints. Driving without getting shot constantly at would have been so much better.
Hopefully this time they don't have any giant arbitrarily-placed terrain features that funnel you around. Game would have been way more fun if you could snipe from mountaintops and drive offroad through the woods.

No it was easily one of the worst high profile FPSs I've played and I'm not exaggerating. It was really, really fucking pretty, but the game itself was DEAD. Everything about it was just dead and boring. I could go into much detail, but I'll leave it at that.
Far Cry 1 comparatively was a far superior game.
i like farcry 2
the mortar was fun

Pretty much this, the weapon-play was great, degrading weapons was a great addition, but they degraded a bit too fast. Only problem was a complete lack of friendly AI, when you're doing missions for one faction, that factions people shouldn't fucking shoot you, I hated driving all over the god damn place just to get shot at by the guys I'm supposed to be helping. and the stealth suit is WORTHLESS.
Malaria was stupid too. Even just having coop would have made the game a bit more playable.
Weapons were ok in 2 but some of them just didn't feel or sound right. They need to re-think travel most of all.
I never thought a game could be boring till the point of sleep. FC2 proved me wrong.

Vehicles with physics would be a nice start.
Fingers crossed about this one being good.
I enjoyed Far Cry 2 up until the point in which you had to complete a bazillion boring side-missions to get one actual story mission.
Also, there was no bonus for helping either of the Factions in the game.
It doesn't make sense how I had to do a shit ton of dirty work for the APR, yet they still shoot on sight every time I come into contact with them.

it was quite aesthetically pleasing though, really captured the feel of 3rd world Africa.
