• Borderlands DLC DRM Protection Fucking Sucks

Last week Borderlands and all of its DLC went on sale and, being a steam sale junkie, I had to get in on this. Okay. Borderlands started up fine, and I had a lot of fun playing it. Everything ran just right. (except for a bug caused by my graphics drivers, which I fixed easily) Having seen a good deal of the main game, I decided to check out the Zombie Island DLC. I found a teleport in-game, and clicked Jakobs Cove. The loading screen appeared, and didn't disappear. Thinking it was a first-time thing, I let it sit there for about 20 minutes at the loading screen. After realizing that nothing was going to happen, I alt-tabbed out of the game to close it from my taskbar because I couldn't exit from the loading screen. When I alt-tabbed, another window popped up for a second, then borderlands minimized and I saw steam, which had been open. I clicked on the borderlands icon again to investigate the mysterious window that had opened. Thinking "Oh, there's the problem. I'll just copy the key and..." Wait a second. I can't move the cursor. Moving my mouse around, I could see no cursor on the screen. Okay, I guess I'll have to do this the old fashioned way. I used the arrow keys to select next, copied my cd key into the box, and selected the activate button. The progress bar did not move. At all. Annoyed, I moved my mouse into where I thought the window was and clicked around. This caused the window's borders to highlight, and the progress bar to move and finish. And here I thought I was done, and able to play the DLC, but.. What the fuck, man. I visited the website, and the only solution they offered was manual activation. "Okay, that won't be so hard." I download the manual activation tool, extract it to my desktop, and click to open it. It doesn't open. I click several more times, and finally a window pops up. You are fucking joking. Whatever that language is, I don't understand it. I fucking give up. This is too much work just to play a damn DLC. TLDR version: -Had to activate zombie island dlc -Activation screen seized control of my computer, wouldn't let me alt-tab out of borderlands, required me to go to task manager and kill borderlands.exe in order exit the game so I could go back and copy my key. -went back into borderlands, back to activation screen. pasted key into box without any use of my mouse -dlc didn't activate -downloaded manual activation helper from securom website -program was in fucking german (or whatever that it) I'm never buying anything that uses securom ever again.
owned
You sure you bought it?
No one I know has ever had trouble installing Borderlands.

This DRM owned the fucking shit out of me. It owned me so bad I'm never going near it again.
Including DLC, no one I know has ever had trouble installing or anything.
My DLCs work fine and I don't remember actually having to put any codes in so yay for me I guess.
Bought Borderlands + All DLC on Steam Sale, never even had to enter any keys, ever.
Same, it just activated everything for me without any problems.
It's especially funny since pirates have none of this trouble, don't need to spend money, and can play online just as good as the legitimate buyers.
Get a crack. (User was banned for this post ("Suggesting warez" - Benji))
I borderlands + all the DLC's while it was on sale the other day. I had no problems. Didn't even need to put in the CD keys (even though steam keeps telling me it will probably ask for them). None of this shit you're talking about happened.
Why didn't you just retry the code like it said to do first instead of going instantly to the help website? :geno:
Get a crack.
Oh dayumn, you gon get banned for promoting warez.
Oh dayumn, you gon get banned for promoting warez.
It's not warez if you own the game. ...I think.
It's not warez if you own the game. ...I think.
What I remember, that doesn't make any difference, as a crack is warez.
If you thing that's bad, try ArmA 2's DRM. Try to host it on another machine so you can play warfare without lagging and the game lobotomizes itself so you can't play it anymore.
Oh dayumn, you gon get banned for promoting warez.
Didn't they pass a law that made passing DRM, if you own the product, legal?
It's probably just pissed off because you dont know how to hold ALT when you press print screen.
What I remember, that doesn't make any difference, as a crack is warez.
It's funny because I remember that company that used some groups crack to make a patch for their game, can't remember the whole story.

You know zombie island isn't on that receipt, right?
You know zombie island isn't on that receipt, right?
It is on the list, the full name of the DLC is "The zombie island of Dr. Ned"
Why didn't you just retry the code like it said to do first instead of going instantly to the help website? :geno:
I did that. Several times. [editline]11:36AM[/editline]
It's probably just pissed off because you dont know how to hold ALT when you press print screen.
You caught me :smug:
Get a crack.
He won't be able to play online though, will he?
I first downloaded the game (including all DLC's) to play with friends. I bought it during the Steam sale to make me feel better. Never installed it through Steam though, I keep playing my pirated game. Looks like I've done good.
This is why I bought the disc version of the DLC: no DRM except a CD-Key.
God you're unlucky.. Well that didnt happend to me.. Maybe try getting a new cd? :P
Wait, german version is the censored one, with separate patches and shit. Strange...
This is why I bought the disc version of the DLC: no DRM except a CD-Key.
What? It has securom, I'm pretty damn sure about this. [editline]09:41PM[/editline] Yup it does
Don't skip whatever steam is trying to install. I think its called DLCSetup.exe after it installs that you can play normally.
