Installing a Half-Life 2 mod into steam

I need a bit of help. I was trying to download the Half-life 2 mod, Missing Information, into Steam. I put it into the sourcemod folder in Steam > Steamapps, but it doesn't show up in my games. So, do I need Half-Life 2, or is any game with a sourcemod engine fine?

Have you tried restarting steam? Normally thats the main issue.

I think, you need half-life 2 and try to restart steam

I think it sounds a bit dumb to ask if you need Half-Life 2 to play a Half-Life 2 mod... I think it also need the two episodes, not sure though.
