I can't think of the genre of game I mean, but there are a tonne of flash based games online in which you click on things to.. investigate them? Similar to Myst or those "Escape the Room" Games.
I'm looking for a good, horror based one of the same genre, preferably one that costs money and is online (Steam, D2d).

Not really point and click but you could try Penumbra and/or Amnesia.

I second this, they are all like point & click where you fully control the character.
Wasn't there one that came out in 09/08 supposely to come out in 3 parts and is based on some Lovecraft stuff? I can't remember.
try The 7th Guest or The 11th Hour (the sequel to The 7th Guest)
or maybe Phantasmagoria
5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Trilby's Notes and 6 Days a Sacrifice. Shit is terrifying although it's all point & click, and simple 2d graphics.
