No bad computer, no shit connection, but SMP is fucked anyway

I having this problem all the time, and i had it since 1.3, before it worked FINE.
Whenever i connect to a server, i get the MOTD, and a few chat messages, but HOURS pass before a single chunk loads, or not at all.

Help.

Try turning off DDoS protection in your router, worked for me

Well its my fathers router, and our provide does not allow us to configure it, and you cannot just connect to it to fix it.

Also he has some kind of phobia for anything HAAAAAAX, (he is scared of loosing his credit card or W/E) so he would never do it anyway.

try connecting to those IPs in your browser. One of those should allow you to access your router. If not call your ISP and ask them how to do it. If your father is phobic about losing credit cards to 'haaaaax' he probably isn't savvy enough to notice or even know anything about router setup.

loads of people have this problem. i used to have it, but i recently upgraded my computer a couple of weeks ago and minecraft now works fine. what OS are you using?

Windows XP SP3, what did you upgrade?

Try disabling your anti-virus while you play.

And disabling the enhanced lighting, setting graphics to fast, turning down view distance and enabling frame-rate limit.

Even the other computers wich are utter shit with no nothing handles the game fine on SMP
