• Source engine crashes on startup

A problem that has been haunting me for over a year now, never got any real help from steam support *idiots* It is a rare version of a common error. Not the typical easily fixed HL2 has stoped working. It says "INSERT SOURCE GAME HERE" is preparing to launch, then the screen closes and nothing happens. I've tried everything from deleting Client Registry.blob to -DXlevel 90. You name it, I've done it. But nothing has EVER worked. I just deleted my steam apps and re installed HL2 but even that doesn't work. SPECS. HD 5770 Q6600 550 watt PSU Vis*COUGH* SHIT *COUGH*ta Damn it I want to play G-mod.
What exactly is wrong with Windows Vista :colbert: Vista is not the reason your games are crashing. How much RAM do you have?

If you have 64 bit, try putting in -64 or something like that in the launch options.
32bit
Weird, I rememer somebody having this problem before but I forgot how he managed fix it. Sorry man, no clue.
:suicide:
32bit with 5GB of Ram and 1GB of VRAM? Why? All I can suggest is updating your Graphics Card's drivers and update DirectX.

Try deleting everything in your steam folder EXCEPT your steamapps folder. Then run steam and try playing your game.
Didn't work, good thing I can restore the files.
You didn't have to restore the files from your recycle bin, it will automatically update it when you run steam.
Oh and not everything got deleted. vista wouldn't let me delete everything and unlocker is acting like a bitch. [editline]09:44PM[/editline] Wait, unlocked it. tried what you said. Failed.
I remember now, It was due to a source mod. I thought that I would clean out some space, so I deleted some source mods and it worked. It's a kind different situation but try it out.
Don't have any.
