My mum is quite into games, she's played through GTA4, Red dead redemption, littlebigplanet and a few others from the top of my head, however, I asked her what type of game she wanted for her birthday and she wanted a story driven platformer (although, the story must be mature/serious) and I'm at a loss of what game to buy.
I've thought of Heavy rain so far, not only because I want to play it but because the story "seems" to be adequate, but it's not really a platformer.
I'll appreciate any serious suggestions, although the only reason she sat through GTA and Red dead is because it had auto aim, she can't shoot for shit, so it rules out shooters in general, unless it's automatic.

Forgot to mention, it must be on the playstation 3 and I doubt she'll play most online aspects of a game.
I've also just thought of Ratchet and clank: Tools of destruction, I don't know much about it but it needs to be pretty straight forward, she needs to be told what to do and then she does it, if she's given choice she'll just ignore the benefits, therefore RPG's aren't her strong point.
Fallout 3 has auto aim with VATS and a quite good story.
Or Mafia 2 but those graphics suck on ps3 and its VERY short.
Or just GTA IV Stories Of Liberty City.
Heavy Rain.
SotC (not a superb story, but one of the most atmospheric games I've played. EVER.)
If she wants a good movie, get Heavy Rain.
That's the problem with most females playing video games, once the game starts to be "work"(in choices terms), they get irretated.
I don't know if PS2 games run on PS3, but if I'd also suggest Fahrenheit. You kinda have a free choice in the game, but it's most likely a straight story line, a bit too fancy after in the last part, but still enjoyable.
A Duke Nukem Forever preorder.
Dead Space has a good story.
I know you said she likes a story, but you can't go wrong with Minecraft. I was playing it infront of my mum the other day and she was quite intrigued by it.
If it NEEDS to have a storyline, I would probably say buy her EFLC.
If she said story, I'd love to say Bioshock, buy you said she can't shoot for shit.
Mass effect 2 is quite nice too, but again... shooting.
Viva Pinata . :downs:
GTA IV Stories Of Liberty City
P.S.
Your mom is awesome.
Modern Warfare 2
My mom would never play GTA, she hates it, and she hates for me to play it. Your mom is cool.
Go for Mafia II, has a great adult themed story. And it's mostly linear.
I doubt the sub par graphics on the PS3 will bother your mom. And since your mother isn't the generic "l33t prQ G4m3r" I don't think she will complete it that fast that she is bothered by the short length.
Why the fuck can't my mom be like this? :saddowns:
*Episodes From Liberty City, ffs.
It's good because they're really&seriously story-driven (The Lost and Damned, mostly).
I have to agree on getting her Fallout 3. The storyline is amazing, and if she enjoyed GTA:IV then she's probably going to love Fallout 3.
Ask her first though about "What do you think of nuclear war?" If she asks "Sounds scary" or something similiar, she probably won't enjoy fallout 3 afterall. :frown:
Mirrors Edge. Serious Story and you're not required to shoot anyone.
All my mom thinks is that games are evil and playing them will turn you into a homeless person for the rest of your life
Mirrors Edge. Serious Story and you're not required to shoot anyone.
There are part of it where you are forced into combat
It ruins the fun
It does sound like Heavy Rain is your best bet, or Final Fantasy?
i made my mom play RE5 with me but that didnt go to well..
anyway, heavy rain should be good, its like a game and a movie + it has quite a nice story and atmosphere
Trine.
It's a great platformer with interesting story.

Thanks for the suggestions, she's already played the liberty city stories so it's out of the question unfortunately, the RPG's mentioned (fallout, mass effect) are a bit much for her, both of them are bad seeing as they're free-roam (mass effect not so much) and both involve shooting, if she played both she'd just rush the main story and never play again.
Mirrors edge isn't the worst idea, but requires you to aim (sort of) which again she doesn't enjoy a whole lot. I also forgot to mention that she's finished Mafia II, she also hated the ending apparently.
I think the games I have in mind so far are Heavy rain, seeing as more of you suggested it, or three ratchet and clank Ps3 games, she likes plat-formers and Ratchet and clank (as far as I know) has a more mature story than most.
Other suggestions are welcome.
Get Heavy Rain, really, it knows how to tell a crime story.
Heavy Rain or that Ratchet and Clank you were talking about.

It's not as awesome as you'd think, she played World of warcraft for almost a year casually, got a shaman to level 65 I think, but the problems with her playing games is that she calls me downstairs way too often and tells me to help her with missions or other things.
We did have fun playing Lego Indiana Jones though.

Oh another question I forgot to mention is, is Heavy Rain long? As I said she mostly just goes through the main story and doesn't play it again, and she finishes games rather fast if she puts her mind to it (beat Red dead in two nights) and I don't want her birthday present to be over in a night or two like Red dead. That's why I thought of getting the three Ratchet games, seeing as it's three full games.
Braid, But it's quite short.
Braid, But it's quite short.
This or Trine. Even though Braid is kinda short, it is really epic
I didn't know Braid was on the Ps3, but if it is I'll also check that one out, I don't have any means of putting money on my credit card until a week away, and her birthday is in two days so, unfortunately I can't buy them.
Good suggestions though, I can keep them in future, they'd make good Christmas presents.
Did she play through the half life series? It has a pretty well done story.
I also recommend ME/ME2.
Modern Warfare 2
She wants story.
