• Games you wish people didn't compare to others

It seems every time I mention a world thrown into apocalyptic future, people think the game is exactly like Fallout 3. "There's this game called Metro 2033 I just rented, you're a russian who lives in the old subways and the earth is frozen over and there's mutants." "So it's like Fallout 3?" "I just bought this game where you are in Ukraine after the Chernobyl incident happened and you play as a scavenger who lost his memory and has to fight harsh conditions against mutants and other bandits to find a man named Strelok." "So it's like Fallout 3?" I've played all 3 and there is hardly anything in common between these 3 games besides the fact of nuclear fallout and mutants, but that doesn't make a game remotely similar. So Facepunch, what games do you hate to be compared to others?
All shooters to modern warfare.
It seems as if Mafia 2 is being heavily compared to GTA, which is pretty stupid and annoying...
Halo, GTA, and Modern Warfare. Every game that comes out is compared to these it seems.
Halo and Half Life. :glares at a particular thread that keeps popping up:
I hate when people compare games in different genres.
Stalker Of course everything else is going to come up short.
Vaguely Cartoonish and has something Desert like, so it's like Borderlands.
Vaguely Cartoonish and involves guns, so it's like Borderlands.
Fixed.
I too hate it when people compare games of different types, such as comparing Halo to Grand Theft Auto.
Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead, two totally different games
OMG MODERN SHOOTER GAME JUST LIKE CALL OF DUTY OMG WW2 SHOOTER GAME JUST LIKE CALL OF DUTY OMG FUTURISTIC SHOOTER GAME JUST LIKE HAAAAAALOOOOOO and your game better not have the M4, the service rifle of the US armed forces with a holographic sight either or it's JUST LIKE CALL OF DUTY LOL
Red Dead Redemption is GTA 4 in the desert! Fallout 3 is just oblivion with guns! :eng99:
Anything with classes or a cartoon war vibe is just like TF2
I hate hate hate when people try to compare Fallout 3 to STALKER. Sure, they're both set in a post-apocalyptic world but that's the only thing they have in common.
Prototype and InFamous. Prototype and GTA 4. Type in Prototype vs InFamous in youtube and look at some videos, in the comments you'll see that I've posted stuff to help stop the massive flame wars going on. V:v:V

Radiation and mutants is more like it.
TF2 to COD series. Even though I don't like TF2 much, I hate it when people say it's graphics suck.
Well the main premise of both is that you're searching for someone, those people being Strelok and your Father, Guns degrade in both games, besides the obvious guns, nuclear apocalypse, traveling traders, different factions with different purposes (Freedom, Duty, etc- Outcasts, BoS, etc) You could find a lot of similarities if you look hard enough, that's just the obvious things I can think up.

Real conversation Me: "Hey, you should try Bad Company 2. You'll probably like it." Friend: "Does it have killstreaks?"
Futuristic shooter? "Like Halo?" No, like a fucking shooter set in the future you DICK
-snip snap-
I think people do this so they get an idea of what game you're trying to tell them to something they are familiar with.
Class-based shooter? It's a TF2 clone.
Gran Turismo and Forza. The comparison isn't necessary at all, and there's a flame war between them. Kazunori Yamauchi only consider himself as an artist instead of a video game producer.
Everything (I literally mean everything) with color and personality stole from TF2
All free roamers with GTA.
I was showing my friend some Starcraft 2 videos and he said it looked like a Halo Wars clone. :downs:
