Valve has promised "at least" three "big surprises" for gamers in the next 12 months. Half-Life 3, anyone? Unfortunately - in typical, teasing style - it refused to be drawn on any detail of what the surprises entailed. Speculation over a Half-Life 2: Episode 3 announcement was rife before E3 in June, but never materialised. Valve cancelled a planned press conference at the LA Expo very suddenly - which was supposed to reveal a "surprise". Maybe that was one of the three? "I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do. That isn't going to stop any time soon. I'm just laughing because... people will be shocked again," Valve boss Gabe Newell told the latest issue of PC Gamer. "We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least." Bring 'em on, Gabe. Bring 'em on. Newell has also revealed that Valve is working hard on biometrics to better understand their customers - and, potentially, to bring freaky new heart-monitoring thrills to gameplay.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=262521
I read this in the PC gamer mag on Saturday. I wait with interest.
They could have chosen a better picture than Alyx getting raped by a Hunter.
It's not episode 3. I'll bump this thread in 12 months time so you can all rate me agree. [editline]03:46PM[/editline]
They could have chosen a better picture than Alyx getting raped by a Hunter.
No. No they couldn't. :pervert:
Hopefully something Episode 3 related. Gonna be mad if it's a TF2 update or a new L4D campaign.
I say one of the surprises is the Telltale Crossover game
Left 4 Dead 3, 4, and 5, finally what we've all wanted!
I wonder if it's something Dota related. Meh, not really, I hope more for EP3.
Well, it's good to know we're gonna get cool things. I bet they're gonna talk about the Telltale/Valve/Penny Arcade/Strong Bad crossover at PAX. And that reminds me, PAX is tomorrow. Also, do you think Valve's "DotA" project is separate from the Crossover project? I guess so, since you simply can't cram all that into one game...
Oh god FUCK YES. FFFFUUUCKKK YEEEESSSSS!
12 months.
steam monthly subscription for shure.
Montly subscription would not only kill Steam, but kill Valve as well, not to mention it would cripple the PC gaming market and cause many indie developers to fade into obscurity.
New DOTA game, something Half-Life related, and perhaps a new IP?
steam monthly subscription for shure.
Yeah what with all the amazing features we've had for years, it's about time they charged for it all.
At this point if they are working on EP3 it would probably be like Half-life 3.5ish, but they will still call it Episode three. If they announced Left 4 Dead 3 people wouldn't be really interested at this point, maybe after the release of EP3 for a revival of the series, so L4D3 is not likely So portal 2 is release february this gives a lot of time for valve to sketch up a trailer for EP3, which most likely will be one of them, it makes sense. I'm keeping my hopes up, 2011 is indeed going to be a good year :)

I'd like to see some physics engine upgrades like cloth and softbodies too.
Surprises: DOTA Linux Support Ep3 Trailer That's my bet.
Episode 3 wouldn't be a surprise, everyone is considering it. I don't think it's something big for the engine either, they already showed off a lot of great things in the bits we know from Portal 2, I think that will be it. I just hope it won't be a "surprise" like games now available on a different operating system or a console because that really doesn't interest me seeing as I can already get everything on my Windows PC.
HL2:DM in-game sweating? Pulse rates? What are they experimenting? 2011 is going to be an awesome year for valve.
I expect EP3 trailer around Easter 2011, unless they announce another game meanwhile.
They'll probably be brand new franchises. They said they weren't going to be predictable.
I am happy
also... wow! Dammit automerge!!

World Of Half-Life the mmo
They were going to make an RPG of sorts before Left 4 Dead with spells and stuff weren't they? Maybe it has something to do with that.
World Of Half-Life the mmo
Valve have already done an MMO, it's called TF2 :) Achievements = Quests Apart from trading (which is soon to be added), what's missing?
I don't give a shit unless it's episode 3 [editline]04:37PM[/editline] And THAT is optimistic as fuck
Source 2, Duke Nukem, Half-life 3
