Question: Is half life source compatible with the half life spinoffs?

I'm about to buy the original half life off steam, and i'm wondering; do the spinoffs (blue shift, opposing force, all that malarky) work with half life source, or do they require the normal version of half life.
They may be standalone, but I'm not sure
You don't need Half-Life to play Blue Shift or Opposing Force.
Half life Source runs on the source engine, the original half life does not. so no, it does not work. Trust me, I own both.
If you want MODS you need the original half life. And from what you're asking I assume you want to buy opposing force and such which are stand alone games.
Don't get The Source version.
They're standalone.

Unless like me you get it for the GMod content and because you've got Valve OCD.

You only get the maps and SOME of the textures, don't see why it's so good.
Wait, I can get opposing force and blue shift without needing to buy half life one in any form?

Yes, but buy Half-Life if you haven't already.

Sod that. It may be a historical game, and the beginning of one of the most popular games out there, but i've got two and a half words for you.
MOTHER.
FUCKING.
XEN.
Why not? Xen is my favorite part.
It's On a Rail you should be worried about.

This times a thousand. Xen was moderately annoying, but on a rail, oh god! Just around and around and around until I figured out that you could shoot those goddamn signs to change the direction of the cart.
