I've played the 10 day trial with the download, and I've decided that I like it and I want to get the game. Can anyone tell me which games/expansions I need to play? I've asked a few people but the answers I get are different.
You have to buy
World of Warcraft - $20. - This is not your trial. This is access to 1-60 content.
World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade - $20-$30 - It's $20 if you get it in the booster pack, $30 if you buy it seperatly. The booster pack includes classic and BC so you save $10 if you buy it.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - $35-$40.
And coming in November
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm $40.
Most likely there will be a classic/bc/wotlk booster pack shortly after Cataclysm hits.
When Cataclysm hits though, the classic content in the game is changed for everyone. This is regardless if you have Cataclysm or not. I would recommend starting to play when Cataclysm hits.

Actually I wouldn't do this, won't you like to explore the old content before the new stuff hits?
Old content is boring, confusing and sparsely populated. Only people looking through nostalgia goggles says otherwise.
Wait until Cataclysm comes out (or at the very least patch 4.0)
The current 1-60 content is far inferior to the cataclysm 1-60 content
Are you looking for a Recruit a Friend buddy? I have WoW, and I played it since the start.
A big juicy brain

Going to have to disagree with you there.
The entire (ok most) game is beautiful, no matter what goggles you look through.
Beautiful =/= Fun
