Would you want a console where you run different operating systems on it? By OS, I mean something like the Xbox 360 dashboard, the equivalent of it on other consoles, and it's services. People would be able to choose from different OSs much like how you could choose different versions of Linux or phone service providers.
I'm not sure what the effect of an open source console (am I using open source correctly?). It would be nice seeing competitors Microsoft's Xbox Live service though.
Not really worth it. You can install other operating systems on PS3, but as far as I'm aware, few actually bother with it.
They disabled that functionality in an update a while ago because it could be used for exploits, look where that went.

And nobody used it anyway because it was only allowed to use 1 processor and a part of the ram.
Still was a disabled function that did nothing. People found another exploit, they aren't stupid.
