Buying from steam with a debit card?

Basically I want to buy games off steam (or use steam wallet) with a debit card. The card is not linked to paypal (you have to be 18 to have a paypal account) and it's not a visa debit card either, it's a regular debit card. The card is a cirrus card (which is owned by mastercard so I assume it would go under that) How do I use it on steam? I've put in my details under mastercard but it says the card number is invalid. Has anyone had any experiences with using a debit card on steam?

Did you register it online? Maybe it just won't work due to being cirrus. Not too sure of that type.

Yes the card is working perfectly and has been for several months. There's also sufficent money in the account it's linked to. and cirrus is basically according to wikipedia "Cirrus is a worldwide interbank network operated by MasterCard Worldwide, and was founded in 1986. It links MasterCard, Maestro, Diners Club credit, debit and prepaid cards to a network of over 1,000,000 ATMs in 93 countries"

I have a debit card, but it uses Visa and works. My old EFTPOS card used cirrus so I believe you are mistaken when you say it is a debit card.

well how do you use it on steam then?

Exactly in the same way you would use a credit card? You just get billed instantly. Thats how mine works anyway.

I had to use paypal with my debit card, borrow someone else's card and give them the cash is the easyest way around it.

I mean what do I do exactly? I put in all my billing details to buy a game, put it under mastercard because cirrus is owned by mastercard, yet it tells me my card number is invalid. The card is fully working and i've had no problems with it. I used it in the exact way i would use a credit card. What's the problem?

I think it is because it is a debit card, and although Cirrus is owned by Mastercard, that doesn't make it the same as a Mastercard. Here in Switzerland some shops accept Mastercard, but not Cirrus or other Mastercard jazz.
