What the hell is it? This is a 5v5 Global Offensive tournament, open to any and all with a Facepunch account. However, teams are allowed to be made up of one non-FP player, so long as they fit in with the rest of the team skill wise. Non-facepunchers? What are you smoking? I understand that getting a full compliment of teams with purely facepunchers willing to play in a tournament is probably going to be tricky, hence the leninency. If we're still really struggling, I'll increase the leninency. Oh, okay. Go on. Depending on the amount of interest we get, the tournament will either be double-elimination (i.e two strikes and you're out), or group stages + single elimination. The tournament will be organised using the ever-awesome Challonge to help with seeding, notifications, and scoring. You can also vote on the outcome of matches, which is nice. Wait, you're making me sign up to another goddamned service? How can I be certain they aren't made of >50% horsemeat? I've seen Challonge used for many a local LAN party, and it works extremely well. You don't need to throw your password at them if you don't want to - they accept Twitter or Facebook login too. Okay, fine. How will matches work? Matches will be played on a map of both teams choosing (random at later stages) with standard classic competitive rules (armor + defuse purchase required, no zeus, etc). If I can find someone willing to donate some servers, you'll be required to play on one of our dedicated servers which will automagically record the demo for verification in case of a dispute - otherwise, you can pick a server between yourselves and the other team. After each game, a team captain will then need to report the score to me via email, and then you'll be able to attach the demo to the match on Challonge after the score has been updated. I need a penis extension, and wonder if I can get it through this tournament. What's in it for me? Pride. Other than that, I'm looking at possibly getting some prizes together for the winner and also the voter with the most correct guesses. Donations of any value would be fucking awesome (PM me if you're interested). How the fuck are time differences going to be sorted out? There's a question on the signup pages (see below) asking you for the times you can play. Be as detailed as you need to be - teams will be grouped based on the times that they're available as best as possible, but you may need to be a little bit flexible. Also, we're going to operate a comparitively loose abandon policy (see the rules for details). The serious bit: Competition Rules
These rules are not complete. Use your common sense. If any updates are issued for these rules, I'll try my best to e-mail you with details. A: General Rules 1. ZERO-TOLERANCE ON CHEATING. Any player caught cheating, in any way, shape, or form, including exploits (see note 1), will get their entire team disqualified, and that player blacklisted from all future tournaments. If the team is not a pool-drawn team, that team will also be blacklisted. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. 2. Players are expected to be reasonably polite, both in-game and out. I'm not going to go redonkulous on this (as it's facepunch after all) so feel free to get a bit mad, but don't go absolutely fucking bonkers sending them death threats just because they stole your AWP. Players caught doing this repetitively will be disqualified, and the team will need to find a new player before the next game. If the team is found to be equal length dicks, the team will be disqualified. 3. Abandons are permitted to a maximum of one player per match, and two per player over the course of the tournament. We understand that there's times where you've simply gotta run. However, breach of this rule will result in your team forfeiting the match, with your team scoring your current match score, and the enemy team scoring the maximum. Depending on how much of an issue this is, later games may have a zero-dropout policy. This rule is still subject to open discussion. 4. You're expected to turn up to games on time to a reasonable degree, however we understand that sometimes you don't have a choice but to be late (got something going on, or need to rush out at short notice). If you've got a sudden change to your schedule that means you can't play your next match, please inform your captain as soon as possible (and if it's at very short notice, provide some kind of proof) - captains should then get in touch with the other team, and then inform me of what's going on, including steps you've taken to resolve the issue (delaying match, rescheduling, substitutes). If the team captain has agreed a time and server, and you don't turn up within half an hour without both teams being aware, this will be counted as a forfeit for your team with a 16-0 match score. Also, please don't abuse this rule by consistently "having something on your schedule that's come up out of nowhere". 5. You are expected to have some kind of microphone available to use. This isn't a requirement, but it's strongly reccommended to help keep you and your team competitive. You can either use in-game comms, or external (e.g Teamspeak, Ventrilo, Mumble etc). If you don't have an external server, and would like one, I'll have a Teamspeak set up for you to use. B: Team Leader specifics 1. You are responsible for your entire team under most circumstances. This includes everything under section A. 2. You will be responsible, where applicable, for getting in contact with the other teams leader (be that over steam, PM, challonge or otherwise) and arranging a game time (and server, if appropriate), and then informing me. Challonge should inform both team captains when a new matchup is available, so make sure you've got email notifications turned on. Try and get games wrapped up within a couple of days, or you can ask me for permission if you need up to a week. 3. You will also be responsible, post-game, for initiating any disputes within 24 hours of the start of the game. If you want to dispute something and you've waited longer than this, I'm not duty bound to investigate it. C: Game Setup specifics 1. Games should be played on a map decided between both teams. At later stages of the competition, a map will be randomly selected by me. 2. Pick any CS:GO Open Invitational official server (ideally one with similar pings for both teams) and get all 10 players in-game. The server is running numerous mods to help with gameplay; the only commands you need to worry about unless you're a leader are /ready and /unready - talk to your leader if you're in any doubt. The mod will record a server-side demo of the game which can be referred to in case of dispute, and will also automatically report scores to a central server. 3. Set your demo recording, and start playing! 4. In the event of a tie, the server will automatically initiate Overtime. 5. At the end of the game, the server will save the demo for review and report the scoreline to a central server for me to update. If your score hasn't been updated on Challonge within 24 hours, please poke me. D: Notes 1: By playing, you're happy to be streamed on either my Twitch channel or anyone else's livestream. You're also aware that SourceTV is running for spectators (although this is delayed by 2 minutes). Note 1: An "Exploit" is anything that gives a player a significant advantage over other players, and is unintended by the developer. I'm 99% confident that Valve maps don't have any exploits.
How long do I have? How long is this all going to take? The first matchups should be available from about midday GMT on the 28th. I'm hoping to have the tournament wrapped up within a month tops depending on the geographical makeup of teams. Spendid! Select games will be streamed by me, and SourceTV will be running on all servers - details will be posted ITT as games go up. I encourage you to stream your own games if you can do it well (but remember to set a delay, ~5m is a good suggestion). People experienced with commentating games would also be nice, get in touch if you can spare some time. Also, if you feel you can volunteer your time towards the tournament in any way at all, please do PM me. Suggestions towards rules or other such stuff is also encouraged. Most of all, have fun!
I'd do this if I had CS:GO. Good luck to all competitors.
I'm totally game for this.
Signed up for the pool, this should be fun.
If only it were source...
I'm in the pool, don't all jump on me at once  for the record, my timezone is US Eastern Standard Time (GMT -5:00)
I'm game for this! EDIT: By the way, can the people who were tentatively on my team in the CS:GO thread tell me if that's still the case? I'm just wondering since we can sign up as individuals.
AWESOME! I have entered, but I am just wondering how you will solve the problem of making latency optimal for all countries, ex. If the server is American, then Swedish users will have a much worse latency (an unfair advantage to americans)

If so, I'd suggest that both teams pick a server that gives each team similar latency.
I can provide servers if we need them. I have access to a bunch of locations.
This is probably what we'll go with, looking into some configuration / reporting options currently
I can provide servers if we need them. I have access to a bunch of locations.
you're my hero.
Looking forward to this
Yo guys, anyone up for teaming up with me and my friend? There are 3 slots left, anyone with enough hours of any cs is welcome to join.
I'll team with anyone, but despite my many hours in css my skill level isn't that great so be warned.
A reminder: Please read the form and put your times in GMT! Putting it in CST or saying "lol gmt - 5 hours" isn't helpful, neither is saying "all the time" unless you're that willing to get up at any time of day to be competitive. Exhibit A:
GMT - 5:00
What the fuck does this mean? Does it mean GMT - 5h? Does it mean you're only willing to play at exactly 5am in the morning? I can't ascertain shit from this. You should be able to edit responses by going back to the form; if you can't, just PM me with more details. Also, if you're happy to be a captain, and you've ticked the box, add a challonge username! Additionally, if you're on the individuals list and you've since found a team, PM me and I'll make a note of it.
Holy shit totally going to form the "Holy shit-balls we suck at this game" team.
Are there any spots in any maps that are off-limits?
Are there any spots in any maps that are off-limits?
Don't exploit into places the developer clearly didn't intend on you being, and that don't give you a significant advantage and you'll be fine.
Don't exploit into places the developer clearly didn't intend on you being, and that don't give you a significant advantage and you'll be fine.
So what about the Silo in Nuke? That requires boosting but Valve has yet to block it off... I assume that's an area that's ok to be in?
So what about the Silo in Nuke? That requires boosting but Valve has yet to block it off...
I thought that was intentional, I assume you mean just outside T spawn when you go on the roof and have someone boost you on to the pipes?
Ya, that's what I meant... And thinking about it, you're totally right. In fact, in seems stupid to ask now but whatever :v:
Ya, that's what I meant... And thinking about it, you're totally right. In fact, in seems stupid to ask now but whatever :v:
If you start wrecking shit up there, I'm going to consider it an exploit. If you get buttdestroyed, it'll be fine. Basically: If you go up there, only use your knife.
Thats a pretty dumb rule imo. Killing someone on silo is easy because theyre open. Should be allowed
To be honest I'm still not sure what to classify map exploiting as. If it's something that gives you a significant advantage over the enemy team, it's probably an exploit, but that silo I'm just not sure about (especially as it hasn't been patched for ages). Public opinion, maybe?
To be honest I'm still not sure what to classify map exploiting as. Can we just stick with valve maps? And add mirage? Then we don't have to worry about exploits
Can we just stick with valve maps? And add mirage? Then we don't have to worry about exploits
I was going to stick with pure valve anyway, but why mirage? Surely sticking with pure valve maps is the best, cleanest idea
I was going to stick with pure valve anyway, but why mirage? Surely sticking with pure valve maps is the best, cleanest idea
yeah I don't even know mirage at all
To be honest I'm still not sure what to classify map exploiting as. Public opinion, maybe?
I'd classify exploiting as accessing areas outside of the normal area of play. "Giving a significant advantage over the other team" is a bit of a gimmick because tactical positioning is a huge part of the game. That would include spots like the boxes in ramp looking into radio room on Nuke, and Pit on Dust 2 since only a very small portion of the player can be seen. Not to mention all of the maps position one team in a tactically/positionally superior situation (defense.) Like Jericho said, not entirely sure that any TRUE exploits exist in the maps since they have to be fine tuned to keep competitive/pro gamers happy.
