DiRT 3 is the latest game in Codemaster's Colin McRae: DiRT series, scheduled for a 2011 release. The third and final game of the series is promised to move back towards the original DiRT's focus on traditional professional rally racing, while still retaining some of DiRT 2's angle on the American extreme-sports side of the sport with the X-Games featuring for a second time and Ken Block's 'Gymkhana' free-style drifting also coming to the stage. DiRT 3 will also take advantage of the dynamic weather systems designed for Codemaster's other upcoming title, F1 2010 (September 2010 release date).
The game is set to have over 50 rally cars representing "the very best from five decades of the sport" as well as RAID trucks (the sort seen in the Dakar Rally) and stadium buggies. It is also confirmed that DiRT 3 will have more than double the track content of its 2009 predecessor.
So far, almost no in-game footage has been released. However, running on the EGO Engine of the previous games (and the upcoming F1 2010) it is sure to be an impressive looking title.

Wow, fucking amazing!
More rallye!? That's what I wanted to hear!
I hope they dont make it like dirt 2 with all the weird xgame stuff, it made it feel less like a rally game.
Why do all the racing games have such good graphics?

They don't, CM's games are an exception.

*cough* Gran Turismo

Read the thread.

These are all rendered screenshots, not in-game.
Regardless, racing games have far less to worry about rendering compared to most other genres of video game.
Instead of "Colin McRae Rally" It's "Ken Block Rally" Which isn't a bad thing at all.

1. No it's nothing like "Ken Block Rally", he has just been made the face of the game because he has cool videos on Youtube that entice the American casual market.
2. Yes it would be a bad thing - Ken Block is a shit rally driver.
Dynamic weather? Awesome!
Holy fucking sweetness. I love Both Dirt 1 and Dirt 2. One hardcore title and one arcade. can't wait for them to merge in the third. I fucking love seeing myself make a perfect highspeed turn in the replays. or when i did a hairpins juuuust right.
I don't understand why people think DiRT is more realistic and DiRT 2 is just an "arcade racer".
While DiRT 2 has a stupid obsession with crap American drivers and the X Games... the driving model in the game is far more realistic than the one in the original DiRT game. I'm not saying it's realistic at all (because it's not) but it's far better than the original model. Sure it doesn't have shakedowns and detailed car setup... but at the end of the day the driving itself is more realistic and that's what counts.
I like DIRT 2, it's fun, but I'm still hesitant to really call it a rally game. I hate all the x-games circuit shit. This Gymkhana seems to carry on the stupidity.
Don't get me wrong they're very fun games but when I think "oh I'd like to play a rally game" I'd rather go and play something like richard burns.

It seems in this new game you'll have a choice between professional rally and X-Games-style rally.
You can always ignore the Gymkhana events anyway, just like how in GRID you can ignore all the crappy Japanese drifting rubbish.
I won't be happy until they realise that real life isn't blur and bloom 24/7, and go back to the crystal clear graphics. I guess more rally tracks instead of the "baja" bullshit is good though.

For me, it helped getting into the game. There's few real rally fans and their numbers are dwindling over the years. If they kept making rally games, you'd end up selling it to maybe 5 people.

I disagree. Have you seen how the cars just slide around like oil sometimes completely ignoring what direction your wheels are turned? i get drifting a corner, but when i slide sideways in every turn... i start to think they overdid the effect. I don't mind the x-games focused Dirt 2. what i do love about the first was that you actually stayed on track and turned exacytly as hard as you directed... Dirt 2 exagerates those turns.

whacha talking about? the best part of both games is the Rally and Trailblazer gamemodes. In the races the other Drivers just feel... in the way, always blocking mah grand attempt at flawless driving.
The only motorsport I watch and a huge fan of is F1, but I find myself enjoying rally games as much as F1 games.

The frightening truth is that, on dirt surfaces which don't stay still underneath the car, they are sliding a lot. It's nothing like what you see in Dirt 2, though.

More like what you see in Dirt 1 i'd have to say. which is exactly what i've been trying to point out... you can say i agree with you.
More rally, less arena please. I want the original Dirt feel back.

Maybe it's just me, but aside from bumping into my opponents from time to time, those races didn't feel like racing. I wanna be able to see my opponent, to nudge him into the barrier or against another opponent.

Then go play Grid.
Then go play Grid.
Got that.
Race Driver Grid.
So it's no longer about colin mcrae, but ken blocks? weak.

I'm not stupid, I know GRID, and I own it.

Yeah, well, I don't know about you but making a series with his name when the man died 3 years ago tomorrow comes across to me as a tad disrespectful.
More rally, less arena please. I want the original Dirt feel back.
YES, DAMN IT.
Finishing DiRT 2 and FINALLY getting to drive a classic rally car on classic rally stages was EPIC
Almost though I had wasted €49.95
Well I guess it's a tribute or something like that to him, but you can't keep putting his name on games when he's dead.
dynamic weather fuck yea
