• An Idea...

Well, here now, I've had an idea. I'm sure lots of people have, even game developers. Here it goes. What if there was a game, where you could do WHATEVER you wanted, (slightly like Garry's Mod). BUT, unlike Garry's Mod and some other games, you'd be able to... create your entire own little world... the size wouldn't be as big as an actual world, but probably as big as a normal RTS. They could give you just a blank plate to work on, to build an enviroment with tools, like Hammer Editor stuff, or give you templates, (deserts, forests, tundras). And you could design animals, or just take your pick of preset animals (most likely ones that actually exist here in the real world (OMG, REAL WORLD?)). Think of animal designing like... Spore, except without any limitations. Then, once you're done with that, you are able to make civilizations, if you please. Be it scattered tribes, castles, towering towers of terrifying towerness, modern day cities, or even powerful, futuristic laz0r fortresses, home to robots. Of course, you choose which. You could have human presets, (you can just pick humans for your sentient races), make your own, or make MANY of your own. Then, imagine, being able to choose if you want to control these yourself, or give them their own A.I. (allowing them to act on their own, much like a computer in an R.T.S.). And then, being able to customize the buildings, weapons, all that, or just pick presets for each. And, of course, after ALL of that, being able to, of course, able to make your OWN character for this, be it a mouse, civilian, or terrifying monster, it would be up to you. And once created, you could explore your world, find everything you've made, and view them up close. Everything is your choise. Everything is up to you. You are in command of your own world. You are god.
Impossible with todays average hardware, plus would take so long to make.
See: God games.
Essentially combine Spore, GMod, LBP and the like. Developers would probably not like that.
Impossible with todays average hardware, plus would take so long to make.
I knew that was probably the case. But you'd have to admit, it would be awesome, no? Oh, Little Big Planet.

So basically singleplayer Second Life?
Little big planet
Already been answered.
Impossible with todays average hardware, plus would take so long to make.
It's not impossible. It'd just be a mix of Spore and Black and White. If done properly, it'd be able to run fine.
I want an evolution game. Create your own world, create your own race, put it somewhere, and watch what it does, what it creates, and how it ends up. I. Want. This. So. Bad.
:D Same, Spanaren. I think, if they DID make a game like this, make an OPTION to allow the race to evolve or something.
I opened this and the Minecraft thread and got confused and thought that you were talkin about Minacraft until the create animals part.
I think everyone has come up with this idea sometime or another. The question and problem is how exactly would you be able to make it work.
I think everyone has come up with this idea sometime or another. The question and problem is how exactly would you be able to make it work.
Spore done right + Black & White + some evolution mechanic thrown in = said game.
Spore done right + Black & White + some evolution mechanic thrown in = said game.
Pretty much.... except I'm pretty sure all of the Video Game develepors wouldn't... be so... 'kind' to work together to make this game.

Never, EVER, heard of it. Ever.
Never, EVER, heard of it. Ever.
Wasn't a big game, even at the time. One of the first made by the creator of the sims, back at the days he wanted to make spore without having enough funds or technic. Try it, it's free now, and it's a rather good game, even though it barely has any graphics and is hard to use (kinda like dwarf fortress)
There is a game like this. Its called From Dust
This comes up pretty often, Hell I even made a thread like this. the answer is no.
When you describe an ogirinal idea and compare it to existing ideas it isn't very innovative, or interesting. Especially when you compare it to such large concepts like 'you can do whatever you want'. Its unrealistic, and has been thought of many, many times before. The fact is you can never 'do whatever you want' in a video game. You can always 'do whatever you want' within the game's rules. Unless you had some really weird engine that would change those rules dynamically. its an interesting concept, but right now its not happining.
From Dust :smug:

It was a simple idea, I even said, that people have probably stated and thought of before.
How come every time someone has an idea they always say it should be a game where you can do whatever you want? Anybody remember the idea of Fuck Shit Up? I prefer a game like Super Mario world only with a level creator like LBP's.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=LBP 3rd link down.
I hate clicking on links like that, it makes me feel so stupid. Also, that would be a cool game, but the person programming it would probably kill himself. It'd take years to make.
From Dust :smug:
I looked this up after you guys suggested it...... epic. Unfortunately, I have to wait a year. :suicide:
