Can't remember the name of an old old game on the PC

All I can really remember was that it was 8 (16?) bit, you played as Puss In Boots or a similar character, and you ran around in a dungeon rescuing other cats or something similar. It was extremely badass and I remember playing it all the time over at my grandparent's house when I was a kid. If anyone has a clue what I'm talking about can you help me out?
