Mortal Kombat (commonly abbreviated "MK") is a series of fighting games created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The first four renditions and their updates were developed by Midway Games and initially released on arcade machines, and later to home consoles. The arcade titles were later picked up by Acclaim Entertainment for the home console conversions. Beginning with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Midway Games exclusively created home versions of Mortal Kombat up until Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Following Midway's bankruptcy, the franchise was picked up by Warner Bros. in July 2009 and became a part of the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
The development of the first game was originally based on idea of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but that idea fell through and Mortal Kombat was created instead and released in 1992. The original game has spawned many sequels and has been spun off into several action-adventure games, films (animated and live-action with its own sequel), and television series (animated and live-action). Other spin-offs include various comic book series, a card game and a live-action tour. Along with Capcom's Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat has become one of the most successful and influential fighting franchises in the history of video games.
The series is known for its high levels of bloody violence, including, most notably, its Fatalities—finishing moves, requiring a sequence of buttons to perform, which, in part, led to the creation of the ESRB.[2][3] The series name itself is also known for using the letter "K" in place of "C" for the hard C sound, thus intentionally misspelling the word "combat", as well as other words with the hard C sound within later games in the series. Early games in the series were especially noted for its realistic digitized sprites (which differentiated it from its contemporaries' hand-drawn sprites), as well as an extensive use of palette swapping to create new characters.

Mortal Kombat is a 1992 arcade fighting game developed and published by Midway as the first title in the Mortal Kombat series. It introduced many key aspects of the series, including the unique five-button control scheme and gory finishing moves. The game focuses on the journey of the monk Liu Kang to save Earth from the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung, ending with their confrontation on the tournament known as Mortal Kombat.
The game spawned numerous sequels, as well as a successful 1995 film adaptation, and is one of the most popular fighting games to date. Mortal Kombat was subsequently released by Acclaim Entertainment for nearly every home video game platform of the time and became a best-selling game, as well as one of the most controversial video games for its depiction of gore and violence using realistic digitized graphics, fermenting the ESRB rating M17+

Mortal Kombat is a 2.5D fighting game with 3D graphics and the ninth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series. It was developed by NetherRealm Studios (formerly known as Midway Studios) and published exclusively under the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems in April 2011, and a PlayStation Vita port was released in May 2012. A content-packed version of the game, titled Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in February 2012 and for Microsoft Windows in July 2013.
Although set directly after Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the game focuses on the earliest period in the Mortal Kombat series, the trilogy of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3. The storyline involves the divine protector of Earth, Raiden, attempting to change the aftermath of the events of Armageddon by contacting his past self as he faces defeat at the hands of the evil Shao Kahn. The game also features a return to the gameplay style roots of the Mortal Kombat series, with fights taking place in a two-dimensional plane but with characters and levels rendered in 3D.
Upon release, Mortal Kombat received positive reviews and won several awards for fighting game of the year. It was also a commercial success, selling more than two million copies in just the first month. Due to its extremely violent content, the game was banned in Australia and South Korea as well as being indexed in Germany; the Australian ban was lifted in February 2013 and the game was released there on May 1.

The PC port for this is pretty decent and it works very well with the 360 Pad.
Sorry for the Wiki OP (If anyone wants to fix it up go ahead, I'll gladly put it in)
[QUOTE=Jarokwa;41631046]I'm better off playing it on the PC with a keyboard than a controller, maybe I'm just weird.[/QUOTE]
I found it almost impossible on keyboard.
But nothing can beat these things:

I guess everybody's got there own way.
Armageddon was such a huge missed opportunity. If they'd been as thorough on the fatalities, endings, and stages and shit as they were on the konquest mode, it could have been the greatest MK game of all time.
Though I never really cared for the mechanics of 5-7. It would be nice if they did a repeat of Armageddon on the MK9 engine

I'm still really new to MK, but I mostly use Stryker and Jade so far.

[editline]29th July 2013[/editline]
whats the quickest way to learn all the combos for a character? I find scrolling through the menus slower than I'd like.
[editline]29th July 2013[/editline]
also I'm afraid I have a severe case of mashingbuttonia how do I cure this

I personally look through the list and consantly repeat the combos in practice mode until I know them.
I take a screenshot of the combo lists and put them onto my second monitor then sit in practice repeating them, then testing them in the ladder matches.

I guess writing on a note the old-school way will work just as nicely

That works too, but I like having the nice and clear combo list up
[editline]29th July 2013[/editline]
But I've been getting a bit too good with Cage so my friends don't let me play him :v:
Are random disconnects in multiplayer fixed yet?
Oh shit, I bought this and went to replay the story to unlock all the characters again. To my surprise they are all already unlocked! Stellar!
My main is Johnny Cage, subs are Scorpion and Nightwolf.
Also, MK9's netcode is SHIT, do not expect it to work properly for a while if ever at all.
[QUOTE=aydin690;41639033]Are random disconnects in multiplayer fixed yet?[/QUOTE]
Nope
[editline]30th July 2013[/editline]
Does anyone know any good places to buy fighting sticks, Living in Australia doesn't give me much options.
[editline]30th July 2013[/editline]
Because fuck that Razer one, would cost me an arm and a leg for a hollowed out rectangle with a bit of electronics in it.
All I can say is I do NOT recommend playing MK9 with a fightstick.
Fightstick + games with a block button = do not mix.
Where's MK2 to 4?

MK, MK2 and MK3 Ultimate are on steam already.
I'm no fighting game expert or anything but rain is ridiculously fun.
That screen-flip kick is just hilarious for setting up combos.

And his X-ray ends with the same kick.
His bubble move is probably one of the most unique moves I've seen in a fighting game for quite a while.
