EverQuest Next is the planned next game in the EverQuest franchise of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, a successor to EverQuest, EverQuest Online Adventures, and EverQuest II.
The developers have stated an intention to return to a style of gameplay more like the original EverQuest, while retaining the advances in MMORPG design that have developed in the years since that game first launched.

that youtube clip was so awkward
Hopefully Next is just the working title...
Many people on the /r/eqnext subreddit are bitching that the theme song doesn't have the token EQ1 theme in it, but I'm really happy that they're being creative. I love the French Horn in the new theme song, the entire thing is just as memorable and nostalgic as the original.
I just hope that they don't fuck it up, I'm ready to play in Norrath again.

Originally it was a working title, but then they stuck with it.
OP should add this to his post: Everything we know about EQNext
This game has been in development for about 3 years with almost no information about the game being out, so this reveal at 12PM PST is a pretty big deal.
reveal coming soon stay tuned :)
Everything is Next nowdays.
Stream starts in 15 minutes: http://www.twitch.tv/soe
watching the Livestream!
The graphics look slightly cartoony, coming from EQ1 it'll take me a little to accept it but I really like it so far.
Check out these screens : http://www.destructoid.com/soe-live-everquest-next-shocker-two-eq-games-cometh-259254.phtml
I have never heard about this before (also never played Everquest), just read a short article on RPS, thought it looked good, checked out website, OH SWEET LIVESTREAM!
It looks really really pretty and ... environment voxel based? Holy shit, if they can pull it off properly it might finally be "something different".
Definitely keeping my eye on that
The possibilities from destructible environments are endless depending on how destructible they are.
YES! Something like faction will still exist!
This looks really, really promising.
Such a promising concept. Let's hope it comes out right.
anyone know where to find recording of livestream (so I can add to OP?)
Probably not for a while, but you should post the videos and photos from here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/952/feature/7640/EverQuest-Next-The-Future-of-the-MMORPG-Lies-in-Norrath.html
I can't wait to mess around Landmark, it'll be a good gauge to see how the game will play and run. SoEmote seems like a great feature as well, your character will make the same face that you do on a webcam. Not sure how well it'll work though.

That landmark thing looks extremely fun.
I wonder how optimised it will be.

There's a quote saying it should run on a lot of different ranges of hardware.

I don't want to deal with ProSieben.Sat1
Shouldn't I be able to use my PlanetSide2 account for this? That's a "Station Account", right? Wtf Sony, cmon.
Multiclassing on one character no levels reminds me sort of like SWG
destructible enviroments too, the art style looks beautiful
holy shit this might actually be REALLY good.
The landmark thing sounds amazing too
The art style looks great. I don't know what to compare it to. DOTA 2 maybe? I always liked the art style.

yeah so I understand you will be able to design buildings and stuff and if people use your design you get payed or something?
So would anyone else agree that EQ Next just gave the other MMOs in this generation the middle finger pretty much?
So would anyone else agree that EQ Next just gave the other MMOs in this generation the middle finger pretty much?
We haven't seen much other than destructible environments, some very small gameplay and graphics.
So would anyone else agree that EQ Next just gave the other MMOs in this generation the middle finger pretty much?
I'll be hesitant till I see complete gameplay footage of all the things their claiming at work and how well they work
till then its all gimmicks to me. I thought GW 2 was going to vastly different from reading on it then what it ended up being (I still enjoyed GW 2 though don't get me wrong) so I don't trust just reading about a game from developers any longer.
All the idea's are intriguing though I hope their actually executed well..
I normally would be nervous, but as long as they achieve the destructible environments and landmark I can see myself in for the long run. Combat is usually subpar in MMOs in the first place, so exploring and digging a giant hole to hell would probably be the real fun parts.
anyone else here gonna sign up for the Beta

well they claim that skills will actually damage the enviroment itself and stuff so that sound's kinda cool

yeah I love the idea of destructible environments
I've never played the original everquest when it was popular, and even though it went F2P, after trying it out during the tutorial, It don't suit well with my playing style, the controls of the game will be difficult for me to get used to, such as the old chat commands to trigger the quests, or extra dialogue.
I've however did many 7 day trails on Everquest 2, and when it first released for F2P, I was happy to get the chance to play it foreverly free, but dislike it how very restrictive it became, to where I can choose every race and every class unless I am a subscriber, which I can't really do because during that time I have not an income to pay for the game, which is sad really, especially when I am still in high school, and even after graduated from high school, I had a hard time finding employment.
Everquest 2 combat feels wonky for me when I am more used to casual mmo games like World of Warcraft, Rift, and other games because certain abilities have some information that I don't know about nor do I pay attention to. Everquest 2 leveling pace starts to slow down during level 20's, and the combat seems to get difficult as I progress, ever since I've leveled a character who is level 20 barbarian and fully geared with crafted armor sets that requires a rare ore, I'm using every ability that I earn to deal any damage, yet it felt so small... I wish I could do some dungeon runs but there is hardly anything out there that is similar to the dungeon finder in World of Warcraft, and I am displeased about that because I don't want to spam chat for 4 hours trying to get a group going for a low level dungeon, and not to mention that I do not know any dungeons in everquest 2.
There is only one thing that I do love to do in the game is to craft, the crafting system in Everquest 2 is very vast then any other mmo crafting system that I have ever touched before, it gives you more specialization to choose from when progress further, and since they separated leveling from monster to trade skills, it's feels quite odd but in the end, I got pretty used to it. Not only is the crafting specialization is different, the whole crafting system is not a "click and wait" system, you got to progress via pressing certain buttons to increase and decrease your durability and progress, and both got to be balanced to reach the perfect tiered item to get the monster effectiveness. It's pretty awesome yet it get repetitive after crafting for quite a while, and after doing it for a very long time, it feels like I just don't want to craft for a while because of the repetitive system got redundant and overused so many times.
I'm thinking about going back to Everquest 2, but I still don't know yet, I wonder if it increases my chance of obtaining a beta key for Everquest Next if I put at least many hours into Everquest 2, but I doubt it even works that way and only wishful thinking in my part. I want to get a hold of Everquest Next because it's a sandbox game, like Mortal Online, Darkfall: Unholy Wars, Archeage, Black Desert, etc. This is right up my alley considering I want to build my own home in the world or help a guild out on designing and constructing their guild village/town/city/castle/etc, and make it feel like I am being somewhat of a major contributing in the server/world, maybe be worldly renown for it as well.
