• Bobby Kotick takes on Schwarzenegger
However, in a rare break from controversy, Kotick has today pledged Activision Blizzard's support to the battle against calls in the US for video game purchases to be restricted. Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 - also known as California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - is attempting to pass legislation that would allow individual states to impose sales restrictions on violent games. Kotick believes would "restrict content and eliminate First Amendment rights for Anyone Under 18". Kotick argued: "The argument that video games present some kind of new ominous threat that requires a wholesale reassessment of one of our nation's most treasured freedoms and to take that freedom away indiscriminately from an entire group of our population based on nothing but age is beyond absurd. "We are thrilled to be able to be an important part of this historic effort to protect our Constitution and to ensure that video games remain vibrant form of expression for every gamer in our constituency." The Acti boss wants taxpayer money to be used for educating parents about video game age classifications - rather than censorship. "Instead of tampering with the nation's Constitution and wasting taxpayers' money on setting forth unenforceable regulations during budgetary crisis, California could and should have adopted any number of measures and campaigns designed to ensure even higher rates of parental understanding of, and reliance on, the industry regulation system," he added. I bet he's only saying this for PR purposes since he's been making a even bigger fool of himself recently.
do we really need a thread about every dumb thing this guy says I get it; he's dumb. Kotick believes would "restrict content and eliminate First Amendment rights for Anyone Under 18". Do minors even have rights? I'm pretty sure I didn't have rights when I was a kid.
Holy crap for once I'm on Kotick's side.
Vide game classifications are dumb.
Bobby Kotick says something actually useful? Must be the T-1000 in disguise. :ohdear:

Wow, the only thing I actually agree with him on.
What
just look the other way man
What
I remember my grandparents telling me "you get rights when you're 18" if I tried to pull that "I have my rights" shit
I remember my grandparents telling me "you get rights when you're 18" if I tried to pull that "I have my rights" shit
grandparents are you fucking nuts? grandparents are always racist idiots that believe that they're opinion's are god's opinion
grandparents are you fucking nuts? grandparents are always racist idiots that believe that they're opinion's are god's opinion
you're getting in over your head
I'm fine with video games having a classification and restriction system like movies do, I don't think a 10-14 year old should be able to walk into a store and buy Gears of War anymore than they can Scarface.
I cannot believe that I'm agreeing with him for once. Then again, he's probably doing it since a majority of kids buy CoD.
yea I'm fine with this whole deal, as far as I remember places like gamestop already enforce it
-snip-

Bah, Kotick's realized that everyone hates him, he's trying to get good with people. Not gonna happen again.
grandparents are you fucking nuts? grandparents are always racist idiots that believe that they're opinion's are god's opinion
Let me tell you the difference between They're and Their. They're = They are driving a car Their = Their opinion is odd
I think Kotick is more concerned about possible loss of sales rather than protecting civil rights.
They couldn't get the game themselves, they can only ask their parents to get it.
Exactly.
do we really need a thread about every dumb thing this guy says I get it; he's dumb. You might gain some privileges at 18, but for the most part you have protected rights even as a minor.
"to take that freedom away indiscriminately from an entire group of our population based on nothing but age is beyond absurd." Yeah, like driving, smoking, drinking, voting... and so on!
I have a sneakin' suspicion that if COD and their other games that apparently are popular with "12 year olds" were not such big sellers, he'd be all for this as it would probably boost sales of games aimed at kids(which Activision would conveniently start cranking out). In other words, he doesn't get that "popular with 12 year olds" is a sarcastic joke and he's just sayin' what he thinks people want to hear. Or in other other words: He's still an asshole.
I bet he's only saying this for PR purposes since he's been making a even bigger fool of himself recently.
You and everybody else who said something similar are dumb, stop hating Kotick just to hate Kotick, it doesn't make you cool and you sound like a tool. There's nothing wrong with what he said and even his controversial claims have some degree of reasonableness to them, although I don't think he fully understands what he's talking about sometimes, and is obviously a moneygrubber. But there's nothing wrong with that. Everybody fucking loves Blizzard and they're also horrible moneygrubbers. And I'm sure everyone has made a stupid claim at least once in their life because they didn't know what they were talking about. It's a bit like how democrats blamed Bush for tons of shit that he wasn't involved in, because he made some mistakes before so he was an easy target.
Bah, Kotick's realized that everyone hates him, he's trying to get good with people. Not gonna happen again.
Not really, this law would mean less sales for him. He's still the money-hungry bastard that he always was. Still, I'm on his side on this one. For other reasons though. With the definition "violent video games" you could even ban Mario games.
I... agree with Kotick? :wtc:
Why do they need a law for this? It's already enforced by most stores that sells games. The ESRB was set up so we wouldn't need laws for this shit.
I still fucking hate the arrogent bastard.
Don't buy into this shit, the guy is still a retard who doesn't belong in industry.
