This is probably the greatest F2P MMO I have ever played. I'm not exaggerating. Runes of Magic really is that good. If you frequent WoW, you might notice quite a few similarities, but it's still a great game.
I've seen a few people personally switch from WoW to ROM for a few reasons. The dual class system is awesomely fun. It's free. If you want to spend money on things like a permanent mount or other misc. items, you can. Most of the player base consists of mature players (I was just in an instance raid and the party leader was a married woman), and it's easy to blacklist those who aren't. It's just a fun game, and if you want an excellent alternative to WoW (or just a great game), you found it. This isn't some shitty Korean grind MMO. This is the best F2P MMO in existence. It's constantly being updated, and more races and classes are going to be added soon. It was only launched just this year and it has thousands upon thousands of people playing. There must be a reason, right?
Runes of Magic is a F2P MMO which takes place in Taborea. The history of that place is long and boring, so you can read it here: http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/history.html
Same routine as most MMOs at the start. You can pick from 8 classes and two races (human, elf) at the start. Human classes include the Knight (the "tank" class), Warrior (the "hack and slash" class), Mage (the "i like to blow shit up" class), Priest (the "i'm the only thing keeping mages alive" class), Scout (the "i want to be a mage but i'm too afraid so I wear leather and use a bow and arrow" class) and finally, the Rouge (the "i use the tiniest weapons in the game yet almost do do the highest damage" class). The elves have two unique classes, the warden (i let my pets kill everything) and the druid (i'm like a mage and a priest all in one).
One of the most interesting bits of the game is the dual class system. At level 10, the game tells you to get your ass to Varanas, the main hub city of the game. When you arrive there you will get to choose a second class. Holy shit, a second class you might say? That's fucking right, a second motherfucking class. You can make this your primary class by going to your house. Guess what? You get to start all over again! However, you get a transport spell to the Steppes which is basically an advanced version of the Howling Mountains. You may notice your secondary class levels up here much faster, or always seems to for me. Your primary class will always have more skills available to you, but you will however gain many advantageous abilities from your secondary. For example, a mage is stuck to just offensive skills. However, if you choose Priest as your secondary class, now you get to blow shit up AND you get a quick heal spell AND a regen spell to keep yourself from dying. You also get elite skills later on but that goes beyond the scope of this thread.
If you want more info on elite skills, check out these links. These become very important later in the game:

http://www.theromwiki.com/index.php/Warrior_Elite_Skills
Another feature I really like are the mounts in this game. Hate walking around everywhere you go in an MMO? Don't worry. The second you finish the tutorial level in ROM, you get a mount. That's fucking right. Motherfucking mounts at level one. The first horse you get lasts one day, you can rent horses for in-game gold for a few hours or you can buy a permanent mount with real money (this isn't really necessary but it saves you from such a pain in the ass of having your mount time out in the middle of a forest that you'll end up doing it, like me. However, I'm waiting for the expansion because I may want to save that expensive mount for a different character.)
Here's some general features of the game (I used bold on my favorite parts):
1. Free2play: no monthly fees, free to download
2. Regular updates with new content, e.g. classes, races, game modes and much more (they might seem lacking now, but the expansion is adding Elves and two new classes. Expect more.)
3. Extensive dual class system with six primary classes and a selectable secondary class.
4. Versatile spell and attack combinations
5. Over 1000 quests and comprehensive quest series with continuous storyline
6. Integrated into an enthralling background story
7. Freely accessible game world in atmospheric 3D (very similar to WoW)
8. Instanced and persistent dungeons
9. Individually developed skills and spells
10. Armor sets with special bonuses
11. Dynamic item system: Upgrades with hundreds of runes
12. Activatable PvP system with arena battles and guild wars
13. Server vs. server PvP
14. Ranking system: ranking lists
15. Mounts: various unique mounts. (Mounts can be used at the start of the game.)
16. Epic crafting system with the chance to improve existing items
17. Housing from the beginning: personalization of houses through individual furnishing (You get a free house pretty much right after the tutorial city. It's even part of a quest, there's no way to miss this.)
18. Guild houses in special zones (mother fucking guild castles)
19. Reputation system
20. Scalable user interface based on the users preference (development of ones own add-ons possible)
21. In-game map and radar system to find dealers, resources and quests easily
22. Auction house: auction off and purchase in-Game items (think gold, not diamonds. this is a very useful feature)
23. Controlling with mouse (point & click) and/or keyboard (WASD or arrow keys) is possible
And the soundtrack is fucking fantastic:

I could go on and on about how fucking amazing the soundtrack is. You have to hear it, I can't even believe the quality of the music.

FYI you won't become good without spending real cash, not worth trying
^Don't listen to them.^
This is the single greatest free MMO out there. You can go through the whole game without spending one dime. Even if you do spend money, it will still be considerably less than a subscription to another game.

No, not really. If you don't want to get killed in pvp, you will be pretty much forced to spend diamonds.

like I said, it's a troll thread
I tried this and it's very..artificial.
RoM isn't bad, but it's not great, But I *really* do not like WoW, and do like games like EvE, so many people would say that I have zero taste, and as such, I should suck a dick
I think the best Free to Play game I've ever played was Dungeons and Dragons Online, which goes Live September 9th, 1st if you Subscribe, Great game
Chapter II: The Elven Prophecy is coming out soon. It adds a new race (elves), two new classes, an entire continent, and untold hours of gameplay.
You can view the trailer here. It's not up on Youtube yet. http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/news,id343,official_chapter_ii_launch_trailer.html
I think I'm going to sink some serious time into this game if I can find a Guild before downloading/committing myself to it.
Does anyone know when the two new classes will be available?
I'm anxious.
New patch was released 2 days ago, added like 200 quests, an entire new region, and a ton of fixes
they're releasing two new classes on the 15th (say hello to elven races)
Sooo.. I started playing this. As an ex-WoW player (having quit WoW because I was extremely bored of it) - I really like it, it's like WoW but different enough to keep me interested. I like the dual class system and the fact you can play one class in a LOT of different ways between what secondary you pick and how you choose to spend TP. As of a couple minutes ago, I'm a 10/10 Rogue/Knight and it's pretty fun. I rolled a second character that's gonna be Priest/Mage just for the sake of being able to do anything between my two characters (heal, dps or tank).
The "diamond store" (cash store) is actually pretty cheap compared to most games. You can buy 100 diamonds for $4.99 and you can buy most everything in the shop for far less than that (the important things that actually improve your character and aren't just for convenience you can buy 2-3 times for 100 diamonds and they usually come in stacks of 10).
Really though, you don't even need to spend money to be good. You can buy diamonds on the auction house for the in-game currency and it's pretty low prices (I think.. I don't really have a good grasp of the money yet.. I'm only level 10/10 and I've made 10k without doing anything but vendor crap and quest)
One of my favorite features is when you get a quest, most of the time it will highlight whatever you need to kill/gather/whoever you need to talk to/etc in blue and you can click on it and it will auto-walk you to where you need to go and the auto walk system is usually pretty intuitive about walking around obstacles and such, plus it automatically marks things you need to kill/gather on the minimap.
Me and rilez are currently in the Reni server.
Join usssssssssssss or die.
I'm playing on the Grimwald server or whatever it's called. PvP server.
This game is great fun. I'm a Rogue/Knight.
-snip-
Downloading now, player housing got me.
I'm on the Artemis server with a Rogue/Scout. Best free game I've ever played by far.
I'm on the Manecant, I'm a rogue atm.
I created an account and downloaded the game, but when I try to login I get "accout or password error". What's going on?
I created an account and downloaded the game, but when I try to login I get "accout or password error". What's going on?
You have to wait for the game to activate your account.
https://account.frogster-america.com/
Log into here and then click on game accounts.
You have to wait for your account status to switch to 'created'.
This could take upwards to a day, especially if you created your account on Sunday like I did. Don't fret though, soon it will be activated and the fun will commence!
If you want a good server to play on, you might want to look at Reni. It's a newer server, so there are tons of people in the first few cities, and it's REALLY easy to find a group. Artemis is another good one but I don't have a character there.
Some quick combos;
Knight/Priest (tank. acts like the paladin in WoW)
Knight/Warrior(hard hitting tank)
Mage/Priest(huge dps with heal but shitty health)
If you want to find a middle ground, just mix in a rouge or a scout.
If you guys DO join Reni, I'd like to start a Facepunch guild. Send me a PM on FP with your username and we can meet up. If we get enough guild members and save up enough gold and materials, we can buy a guild castle.
I didn't mind this game but after getting level 10 and getting a second class I kinda felt somewhat lost in the sense of where do I go to level this up now? Didn't really give It much chance as I got distracted with other things...
Wouldn't mind trying to get into it personally. Would pick knight/warrior or knight/priest if I tried again though if they're easy enough to get groups with?

lots of groups will want a knight priest/warrior because they're tanks. Knight Priest would probably be more sought after, though.
when you get your second class you get a teleport spell (teleport to reifort camp) to a new area that basically lets you start over with your second class.
are you sure you cant be a good player without buying stuff? because i want to start playing this =/
