I've heard enough, where can I get it?
On steam, for $10 http://store.steampowered.com/app/105600/
What is Terraria?
Terraria is an RPG/Platformer with an open sandbox world. You can build, explore and fight monsters.
What can you do?
Like said before, you can explore, build and fight monsters. There is also multiplayer that allows you to play with other people and fight them too.
Explore
The world is randomly generated, you can select 3 sizes for your world to be. Every world will put the player somewhere in the middle of an uninhabited island that has cave systems that lead to the underworld, an underground jungle full of man eating plants and retarded bees and shrines which have chests so that means they are a good thing, and a dungeon, guarded by an old man who is actually a giant skeleton monster and contains lots of goodies.
Build
Using the rocks you dislodged with your pickaxe (and other materials) you can build stuff. When you've built a room big enough for someone to live in, decorate it a bit and provide some lighting, random strangers will soon come and call dibs on that room! Building structures main idea is to be able to move the guide NPC closer to home so that when you are stuck you can ask him for helpful information. NPCs sell you stuff for money that you find:
You can also craft stuff in your inventory and on workbenches, furnaces and anvils. You can do this to make furniture, new weapons and armor and to upgrade some items.
Fight
Using the cool items you find in dungeons and caves and such you can fight against the monsters that plague the land. During the day you will find annoying slimes on the surface but when night comes so do flying eyeballs and zombies that don't care for privacy. There's also a couple of bosses to piss you off when you don't need them.
PvP can be done on servers online so you can show everyone how tough you are.
Features
[release]PvP can be turned on and off at will. It also includes color-coded teams.
Water behaves realistically, flowing and draining.
Ore can be mined, then smelted to ingots for crafting.
By default, you sink (and drown, after a time) in water, but later on you can make artifacts that will allow you to swim, breathe underwater, etc.
Antique pots spawn with the world and contain money when smashed.
Mushrooms spawn with the world and can be eaten for quick health at low levels.
Dying consequences aren't yet determined, but the most likely path they'll go with is losing money when you die.
Once you have a wooden sword, you might try to gather some gel from slimes. Combine wood and gel to make a torch!
Underground there are crystal hearts that can be used to increase your max life. You will need a hammer to harvest them.
Stars fall all over the world at night. They can be used for all sorts of useful things. If you see one, be sure to grab it because they disappear after sunrise.
If you gather 10 fallen stars, they can be combined to create an item that will increase your magic capacity.
There are many different ways to attract people to move into your town. They will of course need a home to live in.
Two people will not live in the same home. Also, if their home is destroyed, they will look for a new place to live.
In order for a room to be considered a home, it needs to have a chair, door, table, and light source. The house should have walls as well!
If you want a merchant to move in, you will need to gather plenty of money. 50 silver coins should do the trick!
For a nurse to move in, you will need to increase your maximum life.
If you had a gun, I bet an arms dealer might show up to sell you some ammo.
You should prove yourself by defeating a strong monster. That will get the attention of a dryad.
You can make a grappling hook from a hook and 3 chains. They can be made from iron bars. Skeletons found deep underground usually carry hooks[/release]

Hosting Without Hamachi
Here is a server fix for people having trouble hosting without hamachi
What is happening is it is listening on the last interface you have. Which for me is hamachi :P. I patched it so it will listen on all interfaces which is the default listener behavior.

I have so many mirrorsss
I'm getting raped by the Eye of Cthulhu every single night, is there a strategy how to defeat him?
I don't have any ranged weapons, my most powerful weapon is a Light's Bane.
Good OP
I never geta nurse or demolitionist even though I have met the requirements for makig them appear.
:argh: Imps
They're so damn annoying.
Game needs more bosses in my opinion. I'm hoping a new boss comes out in the first update, I don't really have anything else to do.

Learn his pattern of movement. While he has >1500 HP, he can be a little unpredictable.
Once he has <1500 HP, it's movement is much more predictable; it'll stay close to you, and every few seconds, it will charge at you three times in a row.
He also constantly spews out little eyes, which are damn annoying.
anyone got any tips for beating skeletron? i can't beat him before sunrise

Needs more superbosses, the ones that are hard even with friends and great equipment.

I'm sure shurikens would perform adequately

Something like a worm the size of a chasm that has a chance to destroy blocks it passes through. Splits into/spawns eaters of worlds if you want that extra challenge.
Or a dragon that could raze your whole village in less than a minute if you piss him off.
anyone got any tips for beating skeletron? i can't beat him before sunrise
Spam everything.
Australia master race :respek:
the best weapon i have against him is the ball o' hurt i guess
do i need something better?

Flamerang.
All this game really needs to greatly increase the longevity is random weapon stats, and a system that calculates your 'level' depending on your current equipment, allowing monsters and bosses to adjust to that level.
I see an image being used twice in the op.
[editline]derp[/editline]
He fixed it.
Flamerang.
whats that from, the underworld?
All this game really needs to greatly increase the longevity is random weapon stats, and a system that calculates your 'level' depending on your current equipment, allowing monsters and bosses to adjust to that level.
It needs progressive areas, like beyond the starting island the monsters are harder, the equipment is better and there are more bosses. That and quest mode, exploring dungeons made me feel like I was playing zelda so much I thought it would be cool if there were lots of dungeons where you had to beat a boss at the end of them.
[editline]20th May 2011[/editline]
whats that from, the underworld?
Partly, enchanted boomerang with hellstone bars.

No you don't.
Great OP

The only limitations are engine limitations and, if we're luck and/or the developers were far-sighted, even those are non-existant.
I have so many ideas for bosses.
Game runs out of stuff to do pretty quick.
I don't even think fast or large content patches would be enough for this to be consistently fun. Which is sad, cause my friends and I had a lot of fun with it.

Seeing how I've played for 30 hours, I wouldn't say it runs out of stuff fast, especially for a $10 game. What I would say is that it felt like it ran out of stuff fast, since I've been playing non-stop.
Definitely has payed itself back already, though I still want more.
Hey OP:
http://pixellegacy.com/maps/
Currently have 7 eyes for cthulu and 5 worm bait. Gonna kill me some bosses.
Wait wait wait
Wouldn't a dragon be a better "guard" of the dungeon?
Him being asleep at day, blocking the entrance, if you enter he instakills you, and at night he flies around at the top of the dungeon?
Probably gonna get dumbs for this, but I think the game needs random items.
Like a bunch of different attributes, item types, etc. all mixed together so that every game is completely different from the previous one.
The wiki says that the mirror has a limited amount of teleports, can anyone confirm this or is it bollocks?
The wiki says that the mirror has a limited amount of teleports, can anyone confirm this or is it bollocks?
bullshit methinks
The wiki says that the mirror has a limited amount of teleports, can anyone confirm this or is it bollocks?
It's bullshit, though nobody can be sure (what if it has 1 million uses?).
Still no raffles?
Finally came across something I haven't seen yet:

I'm going to assume they are glowing mushrooms :D
