okay lets say I got my self Metal Gear Solida and played the first three hours of the game on my ps3 now I feel like playing on my psp would I have to restart the game or could I play where I left off

I would say no, it's not that I have experience in the matter but it's natural instinct that says cross-platform saves won't work.
With the exception of Borderlands and a few others.
You can transfer your saves to and from your PSP via the PS3 itself. So yes, you can continue where you left off.
I have done this with final fantasy 9 as well as Soul Reaver.

so all I need to do is bring my ps1game to my psp and all my saves will be there or will I have to do a bunch of stuff.?
because I got my Star Wars Game From my ps3 on to my psp no prob.? but with MGS I made it so far I dont feel like re-starting
