Every medieval rts game I've played has some sort of super hard unit counter. Like this type of unit counters this unit, then this unit counters this unit. Are there any games without this.
Example of game with hard counter: I want to mass cavalry because I love cavalry but they're just countered by spear men or something.
Example of game without hard counter: I mass roaches in sc2, there are units that are very good against roaches but if you have enough and use them with finesse you can still win.
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade?
Marines with heavy bolters will kill everything. :v:
Dawn of war, especially with the ork swarm mod is like this, just shoot shit! :D
"Men of War" There are units that have good firepower, good armor, are good for flanking have good rate of fire but nothing is designed as unit to counter another unit. You just counter with tactics.
Medieval 1: total war had overpowered cavalry, and I think perhaps in M2TW as well

This. Bazooka considered hard counter to tanks? Fuck them, show them your Tiger's front armour.
Armoured cars? Countering my infantry? Fuck them, throw an AT grenade at them.
Heavy tank fucking up my lighter tanks? Drive around them and shoot them in the weak rear armour.
Men of War is basically a combination of common sense, battlefield tactics and scavenging whatever you can to be ready for anything. In multiplayer, I've managed to, I don't know, defend objectives with just a sniper, a semi-destroyed tank, and two guys running around scavenging stuff from the dead. My friend raged when I took down his king tiger with a flamethrower ambush. :v:
Fu, that sounds like the best RTS evar.
Company of Heroes if you can get shit right.

Not really what this guy is looking for. I love COH but its still rock-paper-scissors units to counter each other, not as much as lets say starcraft thoug cause it has some multipurpose units.
Stronghold 2 is pretty awesomme
Mods like Stainless Steel for Medieval II Total War fix this but the vanilla game isn't too bad.
I hate games where its if its not its counter it will do fuck all in damage.
Command and conquer games were pretty badass as you could kill tanks with enough infantry.
Well, Rome Total War and Medieval 2 Total War have some hard counters, but really... if you don't use them right they're worthless. Sure, rows of spearmen will stop your cavalry... if they're facing the right direction.
You will probably find the Total War series has a much smoother "counter" system than most RTS games... probably because it emulates real life and if you have any common sense, you will find it easy enough to play.
