[B]What is Il-2 Sturmovik?[/B]

Il-2 Sturmovik is a World War 2 combat flight simulator that focuses on eastern front of WW2, including fights between Russia, Germany, Japan and to a small extent, America.
It was released in 2001, but it's graphics were very advanced for the time and its gameplay unparalleled. The game features single missions, many pilot careers which include dynamically generated campaigns, and multiplayer support for up to 64 players.

It's a great WW2 flight simulator that doesn't require that pay2play bullshit.
This game has to be my favorite flight related game. It's something about seeing a plane that you shoot down, spiraling to the ground gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Once in multiplayer game, Edberg had shot me and I went into a flatspin. While in the flatspin, I shot one cannon round and it hit him in the cockpit.
There is no mouse support so you will need a joystick.
Though the missions are pretty fun, I prefer this [url]http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&get=3358&mirror=5283[/url] mission pack. It comes with various scenarios that doesn't take forever to get to.

Normally you can't browse servers in IL-2, you have to enter the IP address, so here are the instructions so you can play IL-2 Multiplayer.
Go to [url]http://hyperfighter.sk[/url]
Download the latest version of HyperLobby
Run the Installer, click the exe to start it up and you'll be in the lobby.
MAKE SURE YOU CLICK "FORGOTTEN BATTLES" INSTEAD OF IL-2 STURMOVIK, CLICKING REGULAR IL-2 STURMOVIK WILL NOT WORK WITH THE STEAM VERSION.
Enter a username and password and press connect.
Once you've clicked connect it will ask you to locate the exe if you haven't done it already. For the steam version the path is "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\il 2 sturmovik 1946\il2fb.exe" Without the quotation marks.
Choose a server from the "Games in Progress" menu and it will connect you to the server.
Be advised, pretty much everyone on multiplayer knows how to play well, so if you're new to the game you will most likely get your ass kicked.

Heres a trick how to get your resolution right, and how to make your game look ultra fancy!
Please add it to your OP.
How to set the resolution to your screen resolution:
Go to your IL2 Sturmovik folder and open conf.ini with notepad.
Set the Width and Height to your screen resolution.
Set Saveaspect to 0
Enjoy. The settings in-game will say your resolution is something else, but it isn't.
And if you have an ATI card or whatever that has a control center keep reading!
Put Force AA to 8x
Put AAmode to Adaptive multi-sample AA
Put AF to 16x
Put Mipmap to High Quality
Enjoy MORE

Change Antialiasing - Mode to Override any any application setting
Then change AA and AA - Setting to 16x

Uh, yes. Flying with a keyboard is damn near impossible. You could always use a 360 controller like I did.
I have a joystick and a 360 controller.
They're both fun but the joystick was better.

Ahahaha, I remember when we did that and we started dogfighting using the guns from the smaller planes under the wings.
We ended up flying into each other which was hilarious.

The Russians have a small fighter that can attach to the wings of a bomber (I-16 and the bomber is a TB3, I think). We landed on airfields, then attached ourselves to the wings. Formation flying, dogfights with the attached fighters being guns, etc. Quite fun, although the I16 was a bitch to land.
Then we had boat wars. One teams gets seaplanes and land somewhere in the ocean. The other team tries to bomb them, while the seaplanes are using turrets. The PBY was great for this.
TicTac, you need your server back up again, we all used to have a huge amount of fun on there.
