A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:
Steam
-Added support to update AMD/ATI video drivers
-Bug fixes in JPEG decoding of images with embedded EXIF profiles
-Crash fix in voice chat
-SteamService uninstall improvements
-Improved in-game overlay compatibility with some third-party software
-Improved in-game overlay browser forward/back navigation
Fuck yeah.
About time ATI got some support.
Its not ATI anymore its now called AMD Graphics Product Group, its kind of sad I liked the name ATI[B].

Alright, now how do I update my drivers with this?

Look in the "Steam" menu in the top right.

Thanks, it's updating now.
nevermind needed restart
Ugh, it gave me an install package failure, like it usually does whenever I try to update my drivers.
nevermind needed restart
I only have a check for Video Drivers update in the topleft corner and it brings me to their site. :saddowns:
I thought it would check through Steam.
Even though i have an Nvidia card (I'm the bad motherfucker with a 9600gt. The little card that can.) I find this awesome. Soon steam will be all you need to game.

If Nvidia doesn't do the stuck-up Microsoft thing and refuse to make the same deal. :smug:
This is sweet, about time us ATI guys got some support.

I tested it out with an ATI Raedon 2600 HD and it updated. Didn't ask for a restart though. Does this mean my 2600 HD is fully updated and didn't need any updates?
Uh I hope this isn't automatically done? Some of my After Effects/Premiere plugins (e.g. Colorista) only work with this here Catalyst version
Had some problems initially but after restarting Steam it worked perfectly, HD 4770 on Windows 7 64-Bit.
It's pretty cool, updating manually is annoying.

It automatically downloads it but it asks you before launching the installer.

It isn't automatic.

what are you talking about Source engine favors ATI cards
I wish there was some better way to hook the in-game GUI so that it isn't entirely dependent on game performance for it's smooth operation. It sucks when someone's trying to tell you something and you have to wait a minute to reply because a new map is loading and the interface locks up.
:(
Doesn't work for me, the install manager crashes once I try to start it. Had this problem for a time now. Apparently because I installed Visual Studio 2008 after 2010, from what I read some time ago after googling the issue. Only way I can update is through a series of shortcut paramaters on the installer executable so it uses a console instead of a gui.
Says I don't have correct permissions, even if running as an admin.

Can't you uninstall Visual Studio to fix that?
Because if you can't you probably should reinstall Windows.

Really, how?

I'd rather just use atisetup.exe -Install -Output screen than doing all that. Only the Catalyst install manager has that problem for me.
This is very cool, now I don't have to search all the fucking drivers in that horrible sites
When I try the Catalyst update from Steam not only is it 115MB, but it gets stuck when installing at "Currently Installing: ATI Catalyst Install Manager."
Looks like I'll be sticking to the "old way."
Works great for me, but will steam be adding more support for ATI or is this just a handy little tool?
[editline]08:03PM[/editline]
Also, I could just easily go to the website on AMD.com or whatever and just do it from there, but this is easier.
Oh wow, Gabe actually said long ago that they wanted to do this to seal the deal on the less technical minded, they are half way there!
oh god look what it did to my monitor.. just fucking look fuck you steam

used system restore. back to normal. steam is still a bitch
It does that everytime you install a driver, It's not steam its supposed to happen.
It doesn't happen to me. And that doesn't have anything to do with Steam.
