First person shooters seem to have dominate the game market on both PC and consoles. If you look at today's game market, you will realize FPS games outnumber other genres.
3rd person Platformers and adventure games used to dominate the game market. Nowadays, those genres just get buried under the plethora of FPS games.
Where are the good old 2D/3D platformer games on the consoles? The point and click adventure games once dominate the PC market? Have you notice that Real Time strategy are quickly forgotten.
(Nobody remembers Halo Wars but everyone knows Halo Reach)
Why are game developers keen on making FPS games these days? And another thing, almost every FPS games are M-rated . I have yet to see an E-rated FPS game on the market (Minecraft doesn't count). That's what I think.
If you disagree, then NAME me 10 games released this year that is not a First Person Shooter.
no
There is too many FPSs
But not many good FPSs
It's a game genre, doesn't matter if there's too many, it's just a game, don't like it don't buy them
It's mostly because FPS games appeal to almost everybody on the market searching for games.
It's easy to make a first person shooter because you know it will sell a bit. Where is if somebody made a platformer, it's going to be a risk especially because most people in todays market like sports, racing or shooting games. Look at the sales figures of non shooting games like Bayonetta, Castlevania and Enslaved.
I don't care how many FPS games exist until they remain imaginative and different from each other.

medal of duty: bad honor?
I want me some more platformers and what ever happpened to car combat games?
There are loads on the market, but they're often mediocre. Buying older games is sometimes much better. I recently bought Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, and I'm loving every minute of it.
I don't think there are enough good ones.
I'd rather it be a FPS than a shitty unfinished glitchy TPS
To many shitty fps! I demand more originality, how about they make an FPS called "fuck shit up" (You know from where the idea came)
We need more city building games like Sim City and Civilization
Too many shitty FPSes, sure.
We're seriously lacking in quality ones.

Where do you make the connection that if we have less FPS we'll get buggy TPS?
It's not so much that there are too many.
It's that there's too many that are the exact same.

Yeah, pretty much this.
More third person shooters and RPG's please.
Too many BAD ones, yes.
I'm sick of playing gritty brown modern shooters as I kill Russians Ultranationalists/Terrorists from the Middle East/Neo Nazis with my M4 or M4 like assault rifle,

Modern war is boring IMO....WW2 is overmilked...
What about WW1?
I don't know about you, but in the last 2 Gens, there were too many platformers and racing games.
Need more digital wars. Tron Warfare

Staying in trenches and using gas, WWI would be boring - sort of.
Yes. Though... Fps is popular though. The main problem is too many shitty and uncreative ones.
I once brainstormed a Mirrors edge/just cause crossover where its first person in gunfights and slow moments, and while zipping around at high speed its third person. thats fairly creative.
The market needs more RPGs too.
No,
but there's way too many military FPSs and I really feel like the FPS genre needs to spicen up a bit.
TPSs have already made the leap with their cover systems, but I'm stilling waiting for it to happen to the FPS-genre.
The new Red Orchestra is on to something.

This.
I miss good platformers but I don't have a (real) console so I rarely see those anyways.

Also OP RTS games are nowhere near forgotten. Halo Wars is just a console RTS made by some obscure company that slapped Halo onto it, while Halo Reach is a major release. People still play and make lots of RTS games on PC, it's just a fairly niche genre compared to FPS games.
