I am going to pickup a Stalker game if I can find one, what one should I begin with? I havnt played any of the Stalker games yet so I would like help what one to buy first.
Play them in order. However Clear Sky is optional mostly because it is not up to par. [editline]19th October 2010[/editline] P.S. Shadow of Chernobyl is the best one IMO
Alright, anyone else has any suggestions?
Shadow of Chernobyl is the first game Clear Sky is the second game Call of Prypiat is the third. although clear sky was poor [editline]19th October 2010[/editline] get SHOC
Alright, Thanks. If I like it I will pick up the other games. How 'scary' is the game from a scale of 1-10? [editline]19th October 2010[/editline] Mate of mine told me he almost shit hes pants playing it(I know he is exagerrating) (Rate me Bad spelling)
The atmosphere is pretty intense, but overall I didn't absolutely terrifying. Tense at times, though.
Don't goto the megathread or anything.
Gameplay-wise, Call of Pripyat definitely trumps SHoC and, needless to say, Clear Sky. It's probably worth it to play SHoC first, though. Its scariness will depend on how much horror experience you have in games. When I first went through the infamous labs, I was shit-my-pants scared. Having played games like Nightmare House 2 and Amnesia, now, the labs are eerie at best.
SoC first. And don't use mods on your first playthrough. :colbert:
Clear Sky is great but it's too buggy and the faction wars is broken
SoC.
SoC, then try clear sky with complete mod if you want more combat-focused gameplay. Buy COP if all else fails.

SHOC, then CS ( which isnt a bad game at all ), then CoP. Call of pripyat is honestly a shit game in terms of comparing it to SHOC, but its worth it for the story imo
We have a megathread, you know.
SoC then CP. CS is cool but broken. They're all available on steam by the way.
CoP IMO is the best one out of the series. It's where they have refined and tweaked the Stalker formula the best, "3rd time's the charm" definatly applied to this series. It's also very bug free (generally). Story/plot is shit though. But most people don't really play stalker for the story. You could get SoC first on steam, THEN buy CoP later at a discount. If you have SoC on steam (which is pretty cheap anyways, about $10-$15 IIRC), then you get CoP half off as a "loyalty discount", making it very cheap too.
I liked all three, though there are some disadvantages to each. But yeah, play them in order.

I liked CoP the most. Probably because it was the most up to date and refined. Although the interface changed a lot from SoC, so it takes a little bit to get use to if you've just finished playing Soc.
Alright, how long are each of the games?
Completely relative because the games are not linearly designed apart from story missions. If you know what you are doing and blow through the story you'd probably be able to beat it all within 5 hours for each game, but that would mean you'd have to ignore a large part of the world, side missions, etc. It's kinda open world, but not really.
megathread is bad, dont go there stalker
Yeah, if you like to go around just having fun in the STALKER world hunting mutants and anomalies and shit, it could be days before you get around to finishing the storyline.
[i]Get out of here stalker.[/i]

[/QUOTE] Please don't listen to this person, Clear Sky is definitely worth playing and is the 2nd best STALKER game behind SHOC, in my opinion. Patched, its a great game, its just that many people got a spoiled first impression from the original release, which was basically a buggy mess. Now that its fixed, its the most entertaining out of the three games, if a little lacking in the atmosphere and story department.

However, since when most people are asked as to why they like the STALKER series, most will list the atmosphere, among other things. Not so much the story, although I personally like that as well.
I clocked something like 60 hours my first time through Call of Pripyat. Half of that was spent backstabbing people after they led me to anomalies.

I found the bright summer atmosphere to fit the swamps really well, but not many of the other areas.
