Well, okay bare with me on this one. WHAT IF there was a zombie game where it was focused more on survival and actually scary. This would be like the "Amnesia" of zombie games where you will shit a brick house. A free roam environment with 1 city and then just a bit of country. The game will be in a first-person perspective, but with a camcorder. But how is our unfortunate survivor going to shoot a gun while holding a camera? You are right, so I was thinking there could be a button that when you holster your gun, you pull out your camcorder. When you want to pull out your gun, you have some sort of camera that's on your ear. Something like this but doesn't suck...

And when you die while holding the camcorder you will die and see your character's face/ being mutilated by zombies while the camcorder just stares right at the scene.

Earlier when I meant this game would be the "Amnesia" of zombie games, I want this to have that sort of physics like that game. because I like the idea of being able to open drawers and close them like you would in real life. Being able to barricade Doors with furniture or nail them shut with wooden planks sounds pretty cool.
I also made a few screenshots with Garry's mod a while back that relates to these ideas.

Kotick better not be reading this.

I also feel that the game needs to have a lot of interactivity, I want to be able to turn on the television and see static and color bars with bad reception, or switch radio stations by turning the knob.
The environment doesn't need to be like fallout 3, but where It's just an abandoned, lifeless city. If there were to be vehicles that could be driven it would be likely that there would be little or no fuel at all. On another note, It would be nice to be able to look around in the car and be able hop from the driver seat to the backseat and turn the lights on and off so you could find some food or bullets or items to aid you during the infection. When you start the game you can make your own character. Once you are done, you are chosen to pick a camera. When you officially start the game the camera kind of opens up like cloverfield where it plays a recorded video before the infection/disaster. The recorded video acts like a tutorial, you move your camera around with the mouse and walk with the wasd keys etc. but each camera has its own video that gives the character a different personality. Something like that. Did I mention you could make your own character? If there is a zombie game with cameras, there should be a "machinima mode" where you can choose your camera type on the fly anytime, anywhere. You can later edit and "damage" the camera if you wanted too just to get that "found footage" feel. For factions there could be the occasional scavengers and marauders, as the days pass there will be fewer soldiers. This adds emotion to the game, giving the player the idea that he/she might not ever be rescued.
Other ideas from really creative people: Pixelnator says, "Also, from a player point of view the player should get some reward for using the camera and it should be implemented more than just as an explanation to why there is a camera as a tool of adding immersion. Maybe a way of having both a camcorder and the headset piece and use the other as a "minimap"-esque tool that would allow you to leave the camcorder into a location and see the camera feed from that position while your headset camera acts as the main point of view. Leaving it somewhere for too long would make it run out of batteries and turn off and/or leaving the area would return it to your inventory.
Maybe the game could also have some sort of conspiracy or other spying business going on at the same time to justify the use of the camera as a tool for spying. Or perhaps the camcorder has night vision but the headset doesn't and the hand held camera also acts as the only source of light having a built in LED flashlight thus forcing the player to use it in the dark? The hand held would naturally also have zooming and maybe some other useful filters that might reveal stuff. Temperature overlay for example."
Kylel999 says: Also, a friend and I were talking about our dream zombie game (sort of thread-relevant). Basically, GTA4, but with zombies. Three zones; The "Quarantine", where it is as a normal city, you can do normal GTA4 esque missions, etc, but instead of cops, the military (since it's a quarantined area inside the city). Outside the Quarantine, the "city", or something that's not boring and generic. The unquarantined area of the city; massive hordes of zombies, abandoned buildings, huge car pileups, etc. Then, the "Dead Zone", basically a wasteland, devoid of any life (except for a few stray zombies here and there), run down cars.. I dunno, we thought it'd be cool.
LOL-nade says: Maybe you start off with really crappy cameras, and slowly progress and work your way up to more advanced cameras? Like for example, you start off with a camera phone, then you find like, a digital camera, a HD camera (all strapped to your hat) and then to a ear-camera :o
OH or maybe there are no guns, but they get stunned by the flashes from cameras :L
Dunno, throwing ideas out there. Food for thought.
Blargh more ideas:
How about the only way you can see is through a camera strapped to your hat. The crappy cameras means a crappier image, but then as you work up to more advanced cameras, like digital ones, you can get a digital hud, and maybe the ear camera could have an advanced data targeting/recognition/zoom feature.
Gun Stores,Malls and other buildings that aren't Abandoned should have the zombies concentrated at that location and ignores you(except for some strays that are walking to your direction)
Day 1 should have a lot of people running away from zombies.
and make you choose a path(each path have a different intro)
Psychopath,Reporter or The Average Survivor
Zombie game with a camera.
Although, I liked those screenshots. But two ofthem don't work.

Try and refresh, if they still don't work I will re-upload.
Sounds like a pretty cool concept. I'd like to see what developers could do with this.

Don't work.
So survival, like STALKER or something?
So survival, like STALKER or something?
Yes.
Great idea, I'm glad its not a "Herp derp you're in a house somewhere in a foggy Germany with zombies constantly attacking your fort and you can stop them buy purchasing guns from chalk outlines while building barricades with invisible arms."
This is suggested once every two to three months. We're just waiting for devs to do it correctly.

People have tried this before? (EXCLUDING Kane and lynch 2)

I don't think you've ever heard someone suggest a zombie game. 90% of the time it's a free-roam zombie FPS horror game where you can go in any building and barricade it.
Interactive Cloverfield with Zombies? Interesting.
I like the idea of this, keep working at it.
Story makes little sense, why would anyone have a camera to film dangerous zombies and other things that will easily get you killed.
Sorry, but I just don't see why anyone would run through a city full of zombies with a camera.

You really don't see that? There's quite a lot of crazies in this world.
Also there was a movie about a dude running with camera in zombie apocalypse.

Really? What was it called?
Also Here is cloverfield's camera-guy's excuse, " I'm documenting." :fsmug:

Prototype's zombies aren't the typical shamblers this would entice. And you're also some super-human dude so that kind of ruins the GTA4 feel.

You'd be retarded if you ran around in a town full of zombies with a camera in your hands
You have a camera on your ear I thought.
You'd be retarded if you ran around in a town full of zombies with a camera in your hands
Who said they were running around? It could be somebody trapped inside a store, or on a building rooftop, or any other safe area.
You'd be retarded if you ran around in a town full of zombies with a camera in your hands
And it's not retarded to do so when fucking Godzilla attacks?
There's a lot of retarded stuff in both movies and games, and this is not the most retarded one.
You have a camera on your ear I thought.
When you are armed with a weapon.
I got one too,we take four awfully different people and put them in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse
I call it Four Left Dead.
