Okay, sorry if this is not the right place to post this. I just signed up a few mins ago just to ask this question. I know of a fact my ports are open, and I have everything in the router what is should be. I've heard many people say instead of putting your router's Ip in, you should put your Ipv4 Ip, I thought that the Ipv4 Ip for local use. I'm looking to be able to play with my friends that are in the states and over seas. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated, thank you.
What OS are you using? Check the Firewall.

Okay, I'm using Windows 7. What am I looking for in the firewall?
FAILED TO BIND TO PORT
Doesn't that mean the port is already in use?
"Did you add an IP address to "server.properties"? That can cause "Failed to bind port". If you did, remove it so it just says "server-ip=", and then restart the server."
remove the ip from server properties, set the port to something thats open, google "what's my ip", copy the ip, give to friends

Sorry, but that didn't work. I removed the Ip from the Server Properties file, and ran the server nothing happened. Then I looked for a new port and all that came up was Minecraft's 25565 port.

Change the port and open what you changed it to, it's likely the port is in use already by another program, application or computer connected to your router.
dude, i got the exact same problem a few days ago when i tryed for like the 37643 time on the new patch to make a server, thing is , on some routers it seems to cancel your connection to the internet if you manage to port forwad and then you have to restart your internet, just letting you guys know if anyone else will read this , check and see if its compatible or if you're even allowed to do that on you're router, since i found out that i can't do it on mine...

Okay, first where do I find a new port. Second, does it matter if I've checked the 25565 port to see if it was open, side note: The 25565 port is open.
before doing anything else try changing 25565 in your server's server.properties file to something like 25566 and saving then running your server again
see if you receive the same error then come back here

Okay, I've set the port to the 25566 port you gave me. I'm not getting the Fail to bind port error. But for a few times I tried previously I didn't get the error, but no one could connect. I'm waiting to see if anyone of my friends can. But could there be something else wrong. I've disabled my firewall, is there anything else that could be causing it my not let players on to my server?

Do you actually know how to open a port, or are you just running the minecraft server software and hoping it works?
Do you actually know how to open a port, or are you just running the minecraft server software and hoping it works?
I know how.
actually maybe I should elaborate
now that you're not getting the error, port forward 25566 instead of 25565 and tell visitors to join <ip>:25566
if you cannot connect yourself try punching in localhost or 127.0.0.1

the future of Facepunch
So do any of you people on here actually know how to run a server?
In server.properties behind the server-ip= you gotta put your internal ip (192.168.1.xx). You can find out what your internal ip is by running ipconfig in CMD and looking at your IPv4.
u didnt port forward it right
I had to same issue a few days ago about it saying "failed to bind to port"
To be honest, I let it be for two or three days and it let me play with them.
For me when it says that it means I have another server running on the same ip but I can't see it so restarting my computer helped. Maybe this will help...?

Oh and forgot to add if you are port forwarding try using hamachi as its easier
