Valve Anti Cheat is now enabled in GMod. And has been enabled for a month. There’s a lot of confusion about what and what will not get you VAC banned from GMod. So here’s the facts.
•You will get banned for cheating on ‘secure’ servers
•You won’t get banned for purely Lua based aimbots, or wallhacks
•You won’t get banned for ‘aimbot’ weapons downloaded from Toybox
•You won’t get banned for using non-cheat addons like gm_mount etc
•You WILL get banned for dll based cheats such as ‘baconbot’
•You WILL get banned for external cheats that are used to poke at GMod’s memory (to change convar values for example)
•Bans are delayed, so even if you’re not banned right now but have cheated in the last month, you might get banned soon.
•If you are VAC banned in GMod you will be banned from playing GMod in secure servers. You won’t be banned from TF2 or any other games.
Some people have expressed the opinion that VAC shouldn’t be enabled in GMod, since cheats don’t matter because it’s a sandbox game. This is wrong. GMod isn’t just a sandbox game anymore. We have lots of 3rd party gamemodes where cheating DOES ruin it. If a server is running in secure mode with scriptenforcer on it means they DON’T WANT CHEATS on their server.
I’m sure the people that have been banned have a thousand good reasons for why they had an aimbot/wallhack installed – but we don’t have any sympathy for cheaters. If you don’t want to be VAC banned don’t cheat.
