Okay so, I have been getting multiple freezes lately. I have been encountering these freezes in the games Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.
The first time I got this was with BFBC2 and my friend also seemed to be having this problem. We both tried numerous “solutions” (mentioned later on) but none worked. After this I got pissed at the freezes so I started playing COD4. At first all seemed well but after 3 hours or so it froze. My friend did not seem to have any trouble but unfortunately he also got the freeze.
To clarify:
- What Happens: The games lockup and become completely unresponsive. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn’t work so we have to restart it manually. When it locks-up we see the image frozen and the sound makes like a “trrrrrrrrrrr” noise. This happens in both games.
- When it happens: I would have to say that it is quite random.
- Why it happens: We have several speculations. They are
o Heat: Not possible, my GTX 460 gets to max 65* C. And my friends 5770 stays at around 60*C
o Sound: We both uninstall RealTek and ran it on windows drivers, no change.
o Sound: We both enabled “Sound Mixer” (or whatever) in the recording tab. No change.
o PunkBuster: Don’t know how to find out.
o Power: We both run on the same outlet and I thought it could be that becomes we sometimes notice that we don’t crash when the other’s pc is off (there almost always on so we can’t find out well).
- Our Specs:
o Mine:
 I7 930 (not oc)
 6gb of DDR3 G.Skill 1600Mhz Cl7 (overclocked to factory settings)
 GigaByte x58 UD3R
 Corsair HX 750
 GigaByte Gtx460 1gb (not Oc)
 Two WD HDD SATA III in raid 0
o Friends:
 Q8400 (not Oc)
 ATI HD5770 (not Oc)
- Example
o This is one dude that seems to have exactly the same error. (note that I also tried the things he tries mentioned in the video description.

There are a few threads on the EA forums regarding this issue, some go on for dozens of pages, yet there is
A) No official response from EA regarding the issue on BC2
B) No fixes
Here is an example of one:

If any of you guys know anything about this error/glitch, or are also getting it, please let me know, that way others can know and cooperatively we can rid us of this annoying struggle.
For the Bad Company 2 lockup you have to disable your sound in control panel then sound or buy a sound card or usb sound, I use my usb head set and I never have any more lockups.
