What we're going to do differently is that the area around you will be randomly generated similar to Minecraft but we're hoping to aim for a Daggerfall type feel. Mix in Doom style animations and we've got the Drexel Hell project or DHP. We're also not going to be as serious as Project Zomboid. In fact we hope to make jokes about the horror & zombie genres in general while at the same time paying homage to them for what they are and how they got us here. We'll also make fun of first person shooters as a whole for what they were and what they've become. We're building the engine from scratch and he's doing the coding, I'm doing the art. I'm a novice at art and so I've been doing my best to make it as good as I can. Our entire plan is to sell the game for about 5 bucks and that includes the source as long as you agree to not re-release it for monetary gain. We're very early in the process so the Drexel Hell Project which it has been dubbed is not even close to being ready to be shown. We know it'll take several years but we're both showing a passion and really want to do this. These are our plans for features -Randomly generated world, with suburbs, cities and rural settings all happening in a natural fashion(or as natural as we can get it.) -Randomly generated questlines(everything from the main to the side quests, yes we're kicking ourselves hard but want to) -To have a retro Doom-like style but still look decent and good. -A RPG system(we have no decided how we should make it.) -Small pre-defined areas and buildings meant as homages/parodies of horror/zombie games and FPS as a whole. -We will have different types of zombies -Make it as silly and scary at the same time -Two different survival settings, 'mainstream' for those who want to try and do everything and 'hardcore' for the rougelike lovers. -Allow the community to get involved and let them help us create new things and end up in the credits when the player ends the game or dies on hardcore.(If implemented we'll figure out some system so you guys get more than just credit) -That's everything so far- Current level of progress? As of this time we've barely gotten the engine off its legs, he's still trying to figure out the gif loader at this point and I'm working I'm quickly just trying to make dev_textures as fast as I can. Right now we're not even at a showing stage and are just trying to get some placeholders and the basic engine going. I'm currently going through a rough Calc I summer course so texture production is on hold. This is Chris' latest response to me. The terrain generation is kinda meh, but it is better than it was before. And I added water, but that is pretty static as of now. And I made it generate during runtime as the player moves further, so that you can keep on walking forever without ever reaching the edge of the map. I sort of have the zombies working, although they are just grey planes right now. I also have code for a sky box, but I haven't tried to use it yet, because I didn't know what I would put as the sky box.
How can you help us? At this point? Suggestions, quest line ideas, and if you really wanna get involved we need someone to take care of animations.:ninja: My main email is twosouls9292@gmail.com Chris' email is wablahflababablah@gmail.com One last note, we don't have a website so FP will become our base of operations until we get one.
Is there going to be any multiplayer?
We haven't figured that out, we literally started 2 months ago so that's not on the top priority right now. [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] But possibly, it would be fun to make it coop sort of like Borderlands wouldn't it? [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] Don't die on me now!
So is it 2d or 3d? [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] How experienced is your friend at coding?
Playing a game with mates makes any game much more entertaining.
So is it 2d or 3d? [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] How experienced is your friend at coding?
Its going to have doom style graphics so it'll be faux 3D. (While being 3D at the same time.) [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline]
So is it 2d or 3d? [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] How experienced is your friend at coding?
Very, while compilers aren't hard to code from what I gather he made a compiler for brainfuck and while working on this he's coding his own OS. He knows what he's doing, he's made several game engines but they've fallen flat due to lack of media.
-UPDATE-
Starredchrjs to me show details 5:59 PM (10 hours ago) I was considering it; it would be possible, but it is not a primary thing that I think we should focus on. - Show quoted text -
Multiplayer will be possible and most likely WILL happen.
