In the past I never really gave much thought to GameSpot, or it's reviews, but recently I've been using it quite a bit. However I'm beginning to question the trustworthiness of GameSpot's reviews. For instance all of these titles (except MW2, which is overrated) are underrated by the GameSpot review team (not taking into account critic or user reviews), Resident Evil 3: Nemesis received a 4.7 (link), Alpha Protocol received a 6.0 (link), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for PC received an overrated 8.5 (link), whereas Medal of Honor only received a 7.5 (link), Resident Evil: Director's Cut received a 6.9 (link), and countless other reviews that I would argue are fundamentally wrong. So what is your opinion on GameSpot's reviews? Are they usually good? Or are they wrong too often to be fully trustworthy?
PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFff
i almost burst out laughing
nope.
i go to gamespot to learn about new games. don't trust the ratings.
Not as bad as IGN but they were more trustworthy before the whole Jeff Gerstmann incident.

Jeff Gerstmann incident?

TL;DR: He gave Kane and Lynch a fair review and was fired for it because Eidos was funding Gamespot at the time.

This.
Also, he and the cooler people from gamespot (that quit after finding out why he was fired) founded a game website called giantbomb which is really cool.
They tend to be kinda harsh on big games, but you can always check out their quick looks and draw your own conclusions.
Use Metacritic instead.

I was actually a paying subscriber who cancelled his account after Gerstmann was fired. Never looked back.
One guy who voted yes is clearly a gamespot employee
Your own opinion > Everyone else's.
No. As Norzone said, try a game before you shun it because of some reviewer's score. I end up loving games with .34/10.
I don't rely on review scores really. I read what they have to say. If it's a game I'm really excited for, odds are I'll get it anyway. For example, I normally enjoy reading RPS's reviews. They rode FO3's dick for the New Vegas one. I disagreed.
Gamespot is a cesspool full of dickriders. Go to System Wars and see.

But i love system wars, go there and make a sonic suck thread. It's hillarious.
Giant Bomb all the way. Plus their podcast is easily the best videogame related podcast on the entire iTunes store.
Gamespot for news eventually. I mostly use Gametrailers for both.
Go to Giantbomb. That's the site where most of the ex GameSpot staff went after the whole Gerstmann thing.
I tend to look at PCGamer, but I mostly buy games even if they got a low score.
My own opinion is the best opinion!
The only good thing about Gamespot is System Wars, and not due to what it is meant to be, but because it's funny to see fanboys cry. That and sometimes they do have a few proper news posted (I guess fanboyish rage helps them with their dedication).
Oh and the contests are great fun too, seeing Sonic fanboys crying is priceless, and most console users on there are still butthurt by Freeman winning a year or so ago.
What the hell I came in here thinking everyone was misspelling GameStop.
Gamespot used to be cool. Now it is shit.
No reviews are thrust worthy. EVER.
Just rent it and test it on your own. Everybody has opinions.
Most Major review sites take in money and don't put up bad reviews for whoever gave them that money.
I don't really trust websites like IGN and Gamespot because they're usually bribed reviewers.
I either look at Metacritic or Gametrailers for more trustworthy reviews, but overall I actually just either ask someone on what they thought about it or just play it myself. Some of the negatively panned games I tried I actually enjoyed a lot and found some critically acclaimed ones just okay or meh.
User reviews on metacritic > all other.
I take reviews with a grain of salt. Mostly I'll watch game reviews to get some feedback, but mainly to see some gameplay. Even if it gets a mediocre review I might be tempted to pick it up based on the gameplay.
I have never cared about reviews. I always research my shit from gameplay videos, FAQs and interviews and stuff like that. I'd rather spend some time searching instead of reading a review that would say "you cant do X so dis game sux. 1/10".
You are on a massive thread-spree. Seriously, every second thread I've looked at today are yours.
