Okami was a game that started it's life on the Ps2, featuring stunning graphics that resembled water colored paintings and old sumo-i artistic flairs, a Japanese mythology setting, and fast quick combat that rewarded you for being creative with your fighting. The game starred a Sun Goddess (Who took the form of a wolf with red markings and a paintbrush like tail) named Okami Amaterasu who was wakened from a statue when the land of Nippon was threatened by the unleashing of a 8 headed serpent Orochi. Through her travels she teamed up with various characters such as the lazy ancestor of a fabled swordsman, Susano and the bug sized artist Issun in order to slay the 8 headed demon, unaware of the real danger that sprung from Orochi's reawakening. Gameplay featured a system that copied Zelda in a way, you'd go around towns helping people and completing sidequest (using Issun as your voice as well, you're a wolf, you can't talk). Going into huge expansive fields and crawling into dungeons for treasure and to get deeper into the mystery of what's going on around Nippon. When combat got involved you'd be locked into a good sized arena where you'd unleash combos, counter attacks and a flurry of assorted moves to defeat foes. Now, you'll recall my mention of how things looked like a watercolored painting, that actually fits into gameplay as well as during battles and outside of them you can put a overlay down on the action pausing time for a moment, and draw assorted items or motions to help you out, a strike of ink across the scenery would slice enemies/tree's/objects in half, drawing a bomb would cause one to appear and explode shortly after, patterns to create fire etc, and that's where the games main draw (*shades*) comes in as there's truly nothing like it in any other game to date. Latest in the series of games is Okamiden. Ending Story Spoilers for Okami [sp]At the end of Okami, Waka, a seemingly magical prophet reveals to Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, that her home world in the holy lands is under attack by something far worse then Yami the lord of evil, Waka feeling responsible as he was the one who caused everything bad to happen by bringing Yami to Nippon in the first place calls upon a UFO and the two of them fly off to see what's going on and repel whatever dark forces are at work in the holy lands. [/sp] A few months later, a small puppy appears and is found by the wandering Celestial Envoy Issun, he's startled to find out that Amaterasu has had a puppy, and let alone said puppy is in Nippon for some reason, as the two talk a strange darkness begins to cover the land, and the two team up to get to the bottom of whatever evil seems to be creeping up. Outside of this not much is known about the DS sequel story wise, though gameplay wise it stays remarkably the same, fighting wise and graphically. Biggest change is the sidekick mechanic, children of the characters in the first game or new folks all together have the ability to ride Chibi (the pup) and each one has a special function. Susano's son for example can be set down and guided to enemies to fight, or items to switch or buttons to push while other characters may have other aiding abilities, despite how little is known though the game looks outstanding for a DS game, and it comes 3/15 Trailer Warning There are surprising amount of spoiler videos on youtube for Okamiden, beware if you search, I've already had a bit of plot ruined myself looking for a good trailer alone :saddowns:
Yo fuck amaterasu fucking bitch all she does is button mash in marvel her supers are GAY
I remember the first time I played this, I was absolutely stunned by the graphics style and played through it with joy. Also, longest fucking intro sequence ever, stop talking and let me play for goodness sake!

I think the wii version let you skip right out of the box, but honestly (may just be me on this one) I wouldn't skip on a first time through, the story is far to good (if not a bit long)
My favourite quest/mission was when you [sp]shrunk down to the size of that little bug guy and had to avoid being stepped on[/sp]
I was thinking about getting this on Wii
I loved this game, one of my favourite missions was probably when you was [sp]in that city curing that disease[/sp]
I was thinking about getting this on Wii
Totally should, it's a one of a kind game (despite it ya know, having a sequel coming to the DS)
I wish okamiden was on the wii or ps3. The DS does it no justice.
I have been wondering about picking this up, but should I pick it up for the Wii or for the PS2?
I have been wondering about picking this up, but should I pick it up for the Wii or for the PS2?
Good idea to pick it up, pros and cons are as follow PS2: This was the home version of the game, it runs perfectly fine and everything works really well, it also has a loading screen minigame and the graphics are a million times better (in the ps2 version if you stand still no matter what's on screen it'll turn into a painting, has a amazing filter on it) Wii: Framrate issues, clipping and graphical snares, no loading minigame and slightly longer load times, and for some reason and the graphic filter is gone for whatever reason, though the brush play for drawing things is much faster and you can shoot out drawings at a insane speed thanks to drawing with the wiimote. [editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
I wish okamiden was on the wii or ps3. The DS does it no justice.
My biggest worry is the music/characters/fact it's made by another team entirely. I'm sure I'll be fine with the graphics when I'm not watching a blown up youtube compressed video, but from what I hear it repeats /alot/ of events from the first game, and (I can't judge on this) it totally doesn't answer Okami's monster cliffhanger.
that's weird that there is graphical issues of okami on the wii, which is more powerful than the ps2 lol
Decided to get around to finishing the original Okami after beating the DS one, and the stylus feels so much easier to use.
Decided to get around to finishing the original Okami after beating the DS one, and the stylus feels so much easier to use.
While I thought the DS one ruined the originals story in the last quarter of the game, I have to admit it was fun to play because the stylus worked so well.

Glad I watched Chuggaconroy's LP of this, now I want to try it...
Forgot the game was rated T until I got to this part:
B-b-busty babe...
Yeah, I hated how they made it so Susano didn't actually do that finishing move all on his own.
Light spoilers [sp]I raged like a motherfucker at Shiranui and Ammy being different, it's like the people writing for Okamiden didn't even bother to finish Okami, Issun and literally every character in the end of Okami in bright red letters yell "THEY ARE THE SAME PERSON" but okamiden shit all over it, I ignore it though as it's just dumb[/sp]
B-b-busty babe...
Even Ammy was distracted by her. You think they should make another game?
Even Ammy was distracted by her. You think they should make another game?
Maybe a sequel could take to other lands, and you could learn brush techniques from Roman/Native American/Pagan/Aboriginal gods. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] Holy crap, I think this might be a contender with Frog's Theme:
