:ohdear: Maybe it's even better that it's content is cut from game. My god I didn't think that Valve could do something like this. I know i may be late but it's really... really... I don't even have a word for that :saddowns:
I just looked at the wiki entry. ...is...is this real?
Yes, he eve had an animation for it.
I just looked at the wiki entry. ...is...is this real?
Real, and late by a few years. This is some really old content that a lot of people know about if they ever looked at the Combine Overwiki.
I look at the Overwiki regularly, but I've never really thought to search for 'Mr. Friendly'...
It was a featured article on the front page a few times in the past.
Someone made a Gmod Snpc for it a while back.

T'was cut because they didn't have the technology to make him come to life. But now...
The original design of Mr. Friendly was done by the nephew or something of one of the valve staff.

Here's the rest of the Wiki Article:
According to the book Raising the Bar, Valve's Ken Birdwell had a friend whose 12-year-old brother used to draw. Ken had always liked his work so he asked him, several years later, to do a couple of sketches of possible monsters. He presented sketches of several very sexual-oriented monsters to him and Gabe Newell, managing director, the kind of material Birdwell did not expect. Among them was this "Mr. Friendly", with something that looked like a penis. The creature was to literally "rape" the player, holding them with its tentacled arms until the point of fatal copulation. Birdwell was quite disturbed by the concept and wondered if Newell would like it; it turns out he did. They then chatted about possible psycho-sexual alien behaviors and their relation with disturbed teenager sexual fantasies. The sexual themes of some of the enemies were intended to appeal to the innate homophobia of 12 year old boys, the targeted audience for the game.
The original Half-Life 2 was much better.
I wonder if THIS is what they mean by making Episode 3 scarier. And yes, i know they are not thinking of adding it in Episode 3. I hope so anyway...
The original Half-Life 2 was much better.
too bad this was an hl1 enemy [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] also, it is in the hl1:source game files and is a working enemy that can swipe you and do damage as seen in certain mods
Well the Gonarch is essentially a giant bollock on legs so yeah sex sells.
This would have made the game 100x better.
All jokes aside, the idea of scary aliens raping is a really good idea. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] One of those scary things that really gets you on the inside.
Would be creepy... [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Why did they cut it?
It looked like a penis and they tried using it to strike homophobia into 12 year-old kids.
i just...... just........ all i know is that kid is brave enough to draw weird stuff to his brother's friend
Damn,it's a shame that so much stuff was cut from half-life 1.
i'm glad the tripod hopper was cut man that thing had a dick and balls hanging below its hairy vagina
tripod hopper http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Tripod_Hopper is it a penis?
It was to move by hopping from point to point and try to land on the victim's head. Some kind of fluid was to come from its central "mouth",

tripod hopper
it looks like one [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] i am so going to have nightmares
tripod hopper http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Tripod_Hopper [img_thumb]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090613175820/half-life/en/images/thumb/f/f3/Tripod_Hopper.jpg/250px-Tripod_Hopper.jpg[/img_thumb] is it a penis?
They must've taken the idea up again when it came to alien swarm :v:
This is the best part.
According to the book Raising the Bar, Valve's Ken Birdwell had a friend whose 12-year-old brother used to draw. Edit: :wtc: gabe, :wtc:.
I hope they make Episode 3 have some scary shit like this in it.

You know that Gonarch's origin was from one guy saying "Why don't we put a giant testicle on a 20-foot-tall armored spider?"
