Railway building, building a railway in a sucession of saves.

My fine gentlemen, I present to you this night an idea I thought of whilst in the bathtub. The idea is that one player builds part of a railway, then another expands on it. With a large number of successive saves such a network of tracks can grow, and each user can build to wherever they like (Please, do add in sidings/branch lines/split up tracks, stations, signal boxes, etc.) and build to enhance the railway. I am guessing for each section of track you build you will find a different solution to pass each obstacle, or build to some-place or even spruce up the appearance of it.
Rather small atm, but leaves room for expansion and editing. Feel free to modify the original station and stuff.
I used an inventory editor, can concentrate on building the actual thing rather than search for stuff to make it with. Still have a lot of crap left over in you can get rid of if you want.
Have fun building and stuff I guess, once you finished what you want to do, just upload the save and somebody else can have fun with it. There is no plan, just build to wherever you want and stuff.
Not really sure what else to say. Well have fun!

Its like an interactive collage, but with trains.
I rather like this idea.
If a lot of people do this it'll end up being a fuck load of ninjas if you don't use a system for it.
I love collaborative saves. This could be awesome.
Alright, I guess somebody just shouts "My turn to edit" or something along those lines, and they work on it then upload and the next person can go.
Anybody doing such should probably post or something.
My turn :v:

I don't plan on editing, but I thought for occupied carts you could have 1 powered and 27 unpowered to maintain near max speed (on flat land).

The conclusion is in the description.
I thought it was very informative.
So anybody doing it. Just post that you will do it, and will upload the save, upon which I shall add it to the OP.
Also I took the privilege of taking a photo to show Mattyyyys progress, I suggest you add in a picture or two of what you add to the railway. Also feel free to build as much as you like. Please do.

Goes through a small natural cavern:

Nobody seems interested? :saddowns:
Might want to use redstone torches instead of levers everywhere
oh shit, got a outdated version of the map, ignore me.
My turn.
Edit: Just warning you now, this will take a while. I'm putting shit ton of torches, replacing grass tiles with railways to gravel, doing some work on the underground railway, and then continuing it.
When someone turns off all of the levers and removes all the torches. But also gets a shit ton of progress done. :v:

Open MCedit
Copy his part
Paste onto last map version

Actually. Scratch that.
Alrighty, sounds good then, updated OP. Btw the original reason I used torches was to make the tracks act as buffers but yeah that can be easily edited when the need arises as stations and branch lines pop up.
Just a question: Why does the OP has place for only 5 contributors?

I doubled it, it's because I don't know how many are contributing. (Hopefully a lot.)
Another question: Do you guys mind if my turn will last 2 days? Tomorrow I have vacation, so I can work alot more on the railway tonight and tomorrow.
Edit: Done with gravel just now. I watched E3 too, so it took some of my time, and will take more. I'm working on the railway between confferences and when they talk about lame games.

Not at all, please contribute as much as you want.
Well, I actually finished now. I added alot of torches, I changed every tile that had a railway to be gravel, and I extended the railway a bit, also put the base for the next station.
Save:

Feel free to change the base of the next station, and I have only one request. Please continue building the railway on gravel. I put alot of effort to it.

Also, Sobotnik, add a picture of the railway on the OP from time to time so people will see the progress.

Anyone takes? I'll contribute again if no one claims.

Umm, yannickgd, what exactly did you contribute, except random dirt blocks on the ground of the new station base?

I thought he built the giant stone bridge with red-stone repeaters in it?
What? Where?
[editline]8th June 2011[/editline]
Holy fuck. I redownloaded the save, and holy shit, thats huge. Sorry for the false accusation. :golfclap:
[editline]8th June 2011[/editline]
But I guess now all my work with gravel is for nothing...
