The UnReal World is an indie roguelike game available from

Note that the game is shareware, with your character automatically dying on the tenth day. To gain access to the current version it's only 3 dollars or 2 euros.
In this game, you play a tribesman from Iron Age Finland. This game is less of a traditional roguelike and more of a wilderness survival simulation with permadeath.
Now, there is no loot whoring since it is a semi realistic portrayal of Finland of the Iron Age, but there are three main areas that set this game apart from other Roguelikes.
LIVE OFF THE LAND
As a survival sim, there is a constant need to supply you with nutrition, materials, and shelter. You will need to constantly hunt for meat, skin the carcasses, and harvest the nearby trees to acquire food, make your furred clothing to survive the winter, and build shelter. Early game activities include, hunting, trapping, and fishing to acquire a source of food. You likely will skin your quarry to make cords for tying, clothing for keeping warm in the winter (my Thorkell is currently rocking a full bear setup) and clearing the trees to make shelter, weapons, boats, and crafts to trade to tribesman.
FIGHT OFF THE EXPANSIVE NJERPEZ
The Njerpez are a far eastern tribe that has expanded into finland and threatens the hunting grounds of the indigenous tribes. They are default hostile and you will have to fight them. This highlights the combat system of Unreal World, which is so complex it is only second to Dwarf Fortress.
For every melee attack, you can choose between and Edged, Pointed, or Blunt attack based on the weapon you use (Axe, spear, knife, club, etc). Moreover, you can target an enemy's body, head, arms, and legs for increased tactical options. All the armor in the game has specific covered areas, and specific vulnerablities to types of attacks ( for example, ring mail deflects blunt attacks, but edged and pointed pierces it and while fur is excellent against the cold, a spear will skewer you.). Morever, every wound you take is assigned to a part of your body and impacts yourr ability to walk, wield, and attack, in addition to a general mobility penalty.

MAKE PEACE AND BE IN HARMONY WITH THE GUARDIAN SPIRITS
Spirits, ancestors, and ancient gods permeat the unreal world. You must learn to gain favor with them and give them the respect they are due.
Upon creation of your character, you gain two "rituals" which let you do two things:
-Entreat the spirits to enhance an attribute, gear, or construction.
-Offer tribute or humilty to the spirits in exchange for favor.
The truly unique aspect of this system is while there are a couple rituals (OAth of Iron, which literally enchants metal weapons, and Blood Stanching Prayer, which enhances medical treatment of wounds) some of them are of unclear benefit.
For example, Greet the Supernatural Guardian can be used when you feel that the spirit of the region is offended by your presence, and you want to increase your favor. Likewise, General Sacrifice is used when you receive great fortune and need to thank the spirits for it.
But there is no evidence that there is any tangible gameplay benefit to appeasing the spirits. Players may obsessively apoligize for every tree felled and animal killed, or might function as a de facto atheist.
Well, thats the rundown. I hope you guys give this game a chance, it's such a unique roguelike, and I wish more people would give monetary support to developers like these.

I tried this like a year ago. The truest survival game out there
Sucks you have to buy it.
Sucks you have to buy project Zomboid or Terraria aswell, but I've bought all three of them and this one as got most of my time so far.
Besides, if you can't afford 3 bucks then you should cut your internet connection before they cut off your electricity.
This is a fun game. I tried it a while back and enjoyed it. I may start playing again.
