MMO with an open world, housing system, and good RP community? - Games

Just what the title says. I've been looking for an MMO for a long time that meets these requirements, but all seem to fall short on at least one of the things I'm looking for. Years ago, I played [url=http://oi53.tinypic.com/14xkrbt.jpg]Star[/url] [url=http://oi56.tinypic.com/adn5hw.jpg]Wars[/url] [url=http://oi53.tinypic.com/2wp75o5.jpg]Galaxies[/url], but SOE decided that it wasn't good enough and decided to murder it with massive, irreversible rule-changes. So if you've played SWG, you know what I want. WoW is open world, and has an [I]alright[/I] RP community, but has no housing system to speak of. DDO is closed-world, has a particularly tiny (but high-quality) RP community, and no housing system. SWTOR is... well, not released yet, and I have no idea if it's open-world or not. Vindictus is devoid of all of the above. Are there [B]any[/B] MMO's out that are more than LEVELAN FIGHTAN LOOTAN RAIDAN in the way I want?

Ugh. WoW was actually something I'd been hoping to avoid, but if it comes down to it, I can deal with it. Does anyone know of any good private SWG servers?

What, exactly, is Divinity-X?

It is a World of Warcraft private server set on patch 3.3.5a, they have a great RP community if you find the correct people to play with, and it's a rather fun. The old server before us was the same thing, but a bit looser with rules. This is a better server, new owner. In fact, we have most of the old crew, surrounded by great developers and a better core.

Do I need to actually buy WoW to play in it? I'll do that, if I need to.

No, you can torrent 3.3.5a or buy it if you want. I suggest you find a place to torrent it, with a different IP. I'll help you if you decide to. There's a SWG revival project iirc, they have it running how it was in the very beginning, before all the changes. It requires a legitimate copy of the original files though, so you may have to resub SWG for a month to get on it. When I last played it was going quite strong, more active than the current SWG even.

SWGemu is incomplete, and they do character wipes occasionally.

Well last time I played Lord of The Rings Online (back in 2007!) it was quite well focused on the RP, Prancing Pony Inn had a lot of great RPers in the RP server. There was a housing system that, if I remember correctly, let any kin (guild) own a house and chill at it whenever wanted. And the world was quite open!

Second Life is really the only thing on the market currently that has the three things you require in spades.....although your RP results may vary.

Lord of the Rings: Online. Has nice RP servers, housing system and all else you ever want. However the RP servers are not tagged with "RP" so you have to figure out which one is RP yourself.

What few exceptions there are to that rule use combat meters, and I HATE THEM. I prefer freeform RP to metered combat RP by a longshot.

Runescape and Wurm Online. Well technically Runescape isn't open world so scratch that, but Wurm Online is your best bet. I mean I think it has the best open world housing system of any game, although I haven't played Xyson, but I can't imagine that's any better. If you want a house, you just cut down some trees and smack up a house. Wurm Online is horrible for RP, but perfect for housing.

A Tale in the Desert. A MMO set in ancient Egypt. I haven't played in years so I can't say what the current community is like. But when I was last there some of the guilds encouraged RP and sometimes it spilled onto the public chat channels. I am not sure what you mean by open world but you can explore all of Egypt and Sinai any-time you want. It Will takes several hours to run the entire length of the Nile on the roads. You can build houses, plant and harvest crops, even build pyramids. Although the game does not have a combat system (except for special events) it is a competitive game (who can build the biggest obelisk?) and a co-operative game (teaching each other acrobatic moves to improve the dexterity stat). Levels are linked to in-game challenges, the first one is the tutorial! Some forms of in game crafting (blacksmithing and glass blowing) are dependent on YOUR skill. The game is p2p at about US$15/month (last time I checked). However the developer is still semi active in developing it (just). The wildlife is very good at killing new players (you can re-spawn) without provocation. Space station 13, the best rp experience, not an mmo, not really the best house builder either.

It was hilarious when every RP add would say "PS NO PRINCESSES IM PRINCESS!!1!", and the people who said that were usually men. Always wondered why you went down.

Lord of the Rings Online/Star Wars Galaxies Emu/Darkfall/Ultima(don't know how that is these days but it used to be really good)

id say try some Ultima Online private servers for sure. Star wars pre cu was awesome, but if u never played swg at released i would try it now then the combat is like WoW with everything else. to bad not many people play the game anymore, if people did i would resubb, but i have like 3 months free, but doubt id sub after, then again, i havent check if my server was the popular one(it always was though, "bria") Edit: ive heard alot of bad things about Darkfall, honestly the game isnt that bad either, id even say try that, but PLEASE PLEASE, GET INTO A GUILD. DONT LVL FIRST. GET FIRST. I had some extra money so I was thinking to start playing Darkfall, but then I heard "Fallen Earth" is going f2p, im deff pumped to start playing that for free. There is an indie P2P like darkfall and fallen earth "in beta" but has been for like years now... called Xyson, but its SUPER playable now from what I hear. Once awhile I catch someone on JTV streaming the game, so I have seen it recently. And finally, the big game im waiting for is "ArchAge" google that beast! The next SWG type of game i been wanting .... oh yeah and a new MMO came out on steam just a couple days ago, forgot the name its like "gods and something" youll know what i mean once u see it on there, that also has housing. on steam it costs 39.99 and it is p2p. edit: its "gods & heroes"
