so im making a train map and i need help with the switches or points or w/e you want to call them, whats the best way to make them work?
Switches. Redstone with switches and using repeaters to extend the redstone current, or you might be able to use detector rails to change the direction of tracks.
I'm sure there are lots of ways, depending on how far away you want to be able to change the tracks from.
I'd use a redstone torch under the track so it's not visible.. so bury the redstone under the track.

If it's a train station like system, the current server I go on has an awesome set up which goes to each city underground, pretty much you put your cart down and hit a button and it turns on those red rails which increase your speed and 3 are layed down every 5 rails or something, i'll post a screenshot later.

When i saw this, I was thinking actual train with pistons. that multiple people can ride.
