Doesn't seem like it would be that hard. Or is it even possible?Just wondering no need to get upset. And yes, I know there are 3rd party tools (and I could just use .bat) but it'd be nice to have it in game.
There used to be a mod that did this, I think it stopped being updated long ago.
I would totally try and make it myself but when I try and decompile with the MCP I just get errors and no source folder.
there is an image of a server list NOTCH is creating for the 1.8 update, maybe it'll have a favourites list
Hopefully Notch makes a server list, that would be so awesome
Going to restate it for prosterity, Notch is adding server lists for 1.8 that will allow you to save server IPs.

Was about to say this! Looks really promising, I hate having to keep asking my friends for their IPs, I feel like I'm being annoying.

What would be even cooler than this is client hosting, like you can do in source games.

Would make servers larger than two players extinct though probably.

How would I do that.
You're still going to have to get IPs, the one that's coming in 1.8 is just a favorites list.
I'm working on something like that - favorites list with location saver. With also packet interception based GPS and seed retrieval (and perhaps slime chunk live map) and useless garbage like that. There are a few problems though, one being the high cpu usage of the interceptor and the other my incompetence.
Release ETA is 2037

What's client hosting?
What's client hosting?
hosting it from within your game I think, so all you have to do to get a server running is hit create game and change what you want
What's client hosting?
It's hosting via the client instead of via dedicated software, simply put. Launching Minecraft and starting up a server directly through it would be client hosting (also known as hosting a listen server).

Open up notepad, then write "C:\Users\Ohfoohy\Desktop\Minecraft.exe USERNAME PASSWORD IP ADDRESS" (NO ")
So, first is a minecraft.exe location, second is your username, third is your password and last is the IP Address. Then save it with a .bat file extension, then double click it and it'll automatically join the server.

Yeah, but I wouldn't have to ask for them more than once :)
A friends list and server list would be absolutely amazing.
