• source mod diminishing community

Remember first getting Half Life 2 and then later finding out that there was free source mods you can download. Those games had a big community then but now most of it is gone. I find this pretty sad that a good game can die.  Are these games just fads?
I think its a matter of just wanting something new, people won't play Sven-Coop forever just like people won't play World of Warcraft forever. Eventually all games die out and some have shorter lifespans then others. I feel the same way though, a year or two back Zombie Master used to have a bunch of servers, now there are only about 5 with people on them. :/
HL2 was released in 2003, it's been 8 years already. Sure the source engine has been updated and games like L4D look pretty damn nice, but still; time does its thing no matter what. And the decrease in activity can be seen even more clearly as new games replacing HL2 and its mods in most cases don't have mod support, making total conversions and such a rarity these days.
The golden age of hl2 total conversion mods have passed. While there are still some in the works, its not as many as it used to be :(
