It only worked with a handfull of games. And the handicap of not having a second analogue stick or R2 and L2 buttons didn't really help. Also, no bluetooth on the first series was a big issue.

Yah, but the PSP Vita will retain all the features atleast.
Why can't Nintendo do this with their handhelds and the Wii, that console needs alternative controllers constantly.

Nintendo's trying to do this with the 3DS and WiiU. I wonder how that'll turn out...
