So how would one make a "VIP" rank worth donationg for? - Games

I really don't think this goes in the Help & Support section, so don't BAN me. So I am setting up a a server, it will be a Minecraft server as well. I have a friend who has a friend that will make a website for the community (the people, the servers, etc.). The website will cost $22.95 per/year and with that in mind I will set up a two-option donation system. First Option: Pay $1 per/month. Second Option: Pay $10 per/year. *For each server you donate to, you will pay an additional $1 per/month or $10 per/year for each server. For example: You donate to the "DEFCON Garry's Mod Server" for $1 per/month and to the "DEFCON Minecraft Server" for $1 per/month. Your total donations are $2 per/month. Simple math. In return for donating (to give people reason to donate if they aren't the type to just donate because they love the server(s)), donators recieve "VIP" rank. What I need help with: I need help figuring out how to make the "VIP" rank worth donationg for. What can I add to it that doesn't give it Admin powers, but sets it far apart from Guest rank (what every new/regular player will be)? What should I add to it that makes it a lot more fun to have and helpful to have? Instinctively, there are certain tools restricted to Guests on most servers. "VIP" ranks are allowed some of these tools. One tool I can think of to put on the list is PewPew. I could retrict PewPew's Weapon Designer to Guests, and open it to "VIP" rank and above. But what other tools/entities/etc. can I give "VIP" rank? (PlayX would be one.)

Wait, are you asking about what abilities would make donating worth it for a Minecraft server, or are you talking about the Garry's Mod server?

Reserved slots are always nice, at least for GMod. Makes it so there's 2 invisible slots that donators can kick into when the server is full, and it adds them to it temporarily and kicks the highest ping player out for them to replace. What kind of GMod server is it? I know of a few TTT perks you could add.

With RP, there are tons of dumb addons you can get to give people a sense of achievement for donating. Building is a bit harder to have VIP for.

Tell us the gamemode. Each gamemode can have different donator perks.

Sandbox: Noclip (If not allowed for guests), access to weapons, access to more 'abusable' tools, such as the TNT tool, VIP rank (Different Color name, etc). Some servers also have adv_dupe uploading only for VIPs. RP: Money, Paycheck Increase, Access to Toolgun/Physgun, access to much more tools if toolgun is already allowed, VIP Jobs. TTT: Extra weapons, VIP Rank, Start with more Karma, equipment menu for innocent. Ive covered your three main gamemodes, but remember, there can always be more. Still, keep a handle on it. PS. Also get rid of the per year/month crap. Instead make a 10$ lifetime, people are MUCH more willing to donate if they see it is lifetime, even if the sum is larger.

I like your $10 A year but you shouldn't make it a must. People donate because they like your server not because they want more stuff.

I see I caused some confusion, sorry! :D Lol. The Gamemode will primarily be Sandbox, and if votes are high enough, we will sometimes switch to RP if we get bored. As for Trouble in Terrorist Town, I don't know much about the gamemode and have never played it...so yeah. And thing is with the donating, I don't know if I can do lifetime deals, especially when it first launches. As the server becomes more popular and there are more donators, I might consider lifetime deals. But when the server first launches, not many people will play on it for the first 2-3 months, thus there will not be many donators and lifetime dels would not be ideal. In reply to Skylerr, please quote me where I said YOU HAVE TO donate. I didn't. Donators are free to end their donation plan(s) whenever they feel like it and can pick them back up whenever they feel like it. (They have free choice in that light.) Somday when the server is in it's glory with the best of hardware and a professional website and all that, lifetime deals in donating are assured. Until then, they are non-existant. Donations go toward paying for the website I am being offered for it, and to upkeeping and upgrading the server, nothing else. I promise. Donations are STRICTLY for server benifit only. :D And in reply to Genocidal, no this is mainly about Garry's Mod and only partly about Minecraft. This IS the right section. EDIT: Thanks all for the ideas you have given me so far, I think I have pretty much everything I need. Except for a few Minecraft ideas for "VIP" Rank. I'll go there for that.

This is the Garry's Mod forum, if yo want to ask about a Minecraft server, ask it in the Minecraft sub-forum. Very simple. But for your question in relation to Garry's Mod, since you want it to be sandbox, donating can be rewarded with: -No-Clip access -TNT tools, and other tools not allowed by server by default -Higher prop/constraint/ragdoll limit -Ability to choose certain different player models -Access to more props -Shorter pause between voice/chat (if you intend on adding a cooldown for chat) -Higher priority when joining the server -A unique name color -Ability to voice chat if voice chat is disabled Those are a large collection of my ideas. But also, please don't ask about Minecraft here. Make two separate threads for Minecraft and Garry's Mod in their respectful sub-forums.

Sounds more like a payment than a donation. I'd suggest looking at the word "donate" in a dictionary.

Perhaps add chest protection if its not allowed for guests.

for minecraft, add their name to a special board near spawn or something, and they get to have their name and text colored specially, maybe a title anything that gives them an actual bonus is cheap, though for gmod you could get away with giving them a higher, possibly infinite, cap on props and entities don't decrease the normal user's cap, though, you're just getting into tf2 donation servers there, and those are bad.

Noxious Net did it right in my opinion. You don't get any advantage over other players, but you get cool stuff, like having your avatar near your nickname in chat, leaving labels, accessory shop discounts.
