I'm getting banned from steam for nothing. What'd I do?

[release]Dear Steam user,
We are sorry to inform you that your account is being terminated due to breaking the rule 6A. Your IP and MAC Address will be banned from playing Steam games or using any Valve services. If you make another account from the same IP, you could be fined up to $2000 and possible 2 year jail sentence. You have one more hour to use your account. Make it count.
Sincerely,
Valve Corporation.[/release]
I got this from webmaster@steampowered.com. This might be the last log in for steam...and the last goodbye for Facepunch. What'd I do, guys? I haven't gotten a VAC ban in my whole steam life. I need help!

That sounds... really fake. Like, really really fake.
Sounds fake

it's fake

google webmaster@steampowered.com
I think they'd use your name, not "Steam User". And there's no way they'd give you a jail sentence, and they wouldn't say "make it count".
So obviously fake.
Judging by what everyone else is saying, along with the fact that there are a few things I overlooked... I'd have to say that message is fake. brandonsh is right; why wouldn't they use your actual Steam username?
Also to help drive this home there is no section 6A of the Steam subscriber agreement, and to drive that last stake in section six is related to games with subscriptions on steam not being controlled by steam.

Excellent point. You pretty much busted the guy.
Oh wow that is one pathetic email. It sounds like a butthurt 10 year old made it.
Also why would it make sense to ban the IP / MAC address rather than... the account? I find that hilarious
One thing we don't know is why someone would do this.
One thing we don't know is why someone would do this.
Trolling gullible OPs.
I'm pretty sure someone with an email that looks as legit as that doesn't simply do it for trolling
So we rate someone dumb for being worried? :golfclap: well played.

Did you even read the thread?
If you make another account from the same IP, you could be fined up to $2000 and possible 2 year jail sentence.
That would automatically make me amuse its fake.
If you're dumb enough to believe this, then goodbye. Because the stupidity level of someone who believes this shit is at its maximum.

It could be labeled as tress passing, but that's just my opinion.

Insert hahaohwow.jpg here.

You can easily spoof email addresses. Look at the email header for where it actually came from.
Shit, tress passing?
I'm worried also.
It could be labeled as tress passing, but that's just my opinion.
Oh shit tress passing were going to be poor!
Op would you mind posting a screen shot of the said email
Reason why it's fake:
1. There no such thing as rule 6A in the Steam Subscriber Agreement, unless you count rule 6, which is THIRD PARTY CONTENT
In regard to all Subscriptions, Software, and related content that are not authored by Valve, Valve acts merely as an intermediary service provider. Valve does not screen such third party content available on Steam or through other sources. Valve does not assume any responsibility or liability for such third party content.
2. webmaster@steampowered.com is obviously a fake e-mail
3. Why will it fine you $2000 and possibly 2 years in jail when you make a new account, should they just ban you?
4. It's been an hour. Is your account ban yet? Plus, why will they give you an hour to keep your account, should they just ban you imminently.
So you're either a gullible 12 year old or a terrible troll.
Send this to Steam support, they'll probably investigate on this.
OP will go down in history as the most gullible man on Steam
Send this to Steam support, they'll probably investigate on this.
No, they really won't.
Will people stop being so silly? He had a spoofed email sent to him and didn't bother to check where the message actually came from. Stop being silly
I think they'd use your name, not "Steam User". And there's no way they'd give you a jail sentence, and they wouldn't say "make it count".
"You're in trouble for breaking our rules and we might fine you and send you to jail if you try to get out of it, but do as much as you can while you can!"
Let's email the account with the same message.
I overlooked most things that were noted in this thread. It's now an obvious fake. The email is convincing though.
