• Would anyone here play on a server with a primordial desert map?

I thought about doing something like this, it seems like a cool idea and a unique type of map. The conflicts it would bring up with people due to a lack of wood would be really interesting. Would anyone here play it though? If you like the idea, suggest plugins that would work well with it. I may start up a server like this soon. Depending on how people play here and how I like the server personally I may or may not keep the server running. I don't have a job right now and once the free deal from Xenon expires, I'll have to pay for it but won't have the money for it. So I'll just leave this here. I would, if inside that mountain top there were trees for wood. Because if there is no wood at all, nothing would happen on the server besides running around collecting sand and fighting monsters with bare hands/a block of sand.
In the map there are oasis's that have trees and grass and water. I generated a 128x128 chunk map (which I believe is 2048x2048 blocks) and it said there were 12 oasis's generated. I might mess with the generation formula though, to see if I can get a map with more oasis's. Oh, and there are dungeons generated that go pretty deep underground. Those are cool too, have lots of loot like shitloads of wood and some diamonds.
I've played this exact map before. Honestly, it's terrible.
I wouldn't call it terrible. It's just a different and vastly more challenging method of playing, and in a multiplayer environment it'd be nice to watch the conflicts over wood go down.
that'd be fun. Yeah, I'd play it.
Any plugins suggestions? I might add that starter kit thing, and start off all players with a map, 24 planks, and 24 saplings. That way even if people hoarded wood there'd still be a little bit in circulation.
Creepers spawn more often on sand and gravel :eng101:

I played it with my friend it was pretty fun.
I might make it an option to go to it. I'd get the DreamLand plugin (sleep to go to the skylands, and your inventory is separate in the different worlds. When you die, you just go back to the regular world) and replace the skylands map with the primordial desert map. I wouldn't wanna force it on players and to be totally honest I don't think I would like to play on this map all the time either.
It would be pretty fun with 3-4 people raiding a dungeon.
Creepers spawn more often on sand and gravel :eng101:
I played it on singleplayer, they are EVERYWHERE. I got chased across the desert from one mountain range to a whole other mountain range by a gang of at least 4 creepers.
I love Primordial Desert. Count me in.
I'd like to play on a map like this, even though I'm down under and would probably get incredible amounts of lag. I really like the concept of maps that impose a restriction on what many take for granted, which is wood in this case. Of course as you said, there will still be oasis' around so that will be good. Combine this with anarchy rules (no moderation and rules) then this will be great, reminds me of the spawn area of 2b2t.net
Post the IP and i might check it out
I like the idea of this server, although I would prefer to have a lot of the plugin bs out of it. Always seems to ruin the experience. Maybe stuff that would affect the environment a little like modified dungeons, but not things like boundaries, trading, blah blah.
Yeah, vanilla with at most locked chests would be perfect. Primordial desert is all about being raped by butt-fuck everything
I'd probably have some rules but they'd be very loose. If I do do this I'll have something like Factions installed for land protection but I'd put big restrictions on how much land you could claim so that people couldn't claim a ton of land. Aside from that I don't think I'd have any rules. Would you guys support or be against a whitelist? [editline]13th August 2011[/editline] Nevermind, fuck Factions.
Yeah, fuck factions, and maybe not a whitelist but maybe one of those mods that if you aren't approved you can't build or anything?
Only 2000x2000? Won't people just walk far out after all the materials near spawn are gone?
I'd play. Given that nobody was a dick.
I'd play. Given that nobody was a dick.
Protip: Never put 2b2t.net in your server ip box :v: I'd probably join the server, then immediately go out to the map's boundary and build a fortress there.

I used to play primordial desert maps all the time on my best friend's server. They are a lot of fun though I suggest you spawn wood and grass to make an oasis at spawn.
The admin can use /give commands and ingame editing to create giant ancient labyrinths and dungeons for the players to stumble upon.
The admin can use /give commands and ingame editing to create giant ancient labyrinths and dungeons for the players to stumble upon.
the map comes with them silly
When will the server be ready?
I would definitely play, it sounds really fun. :v
I would, certainly.
