I have never been one to post much let alone make threads but I feel this deserves one. I am also a lazy fuck so I am going to copy paste most of this. This may not be the best OP but I think it will do for now.
About this project

Lords of Uberdark (tentative title) is a 3D mining & building game that I'm currently writing, much like Infiniminer and its more prominent cousins. It's still in an early stage of development (pre alpha), but already has most of the core functionality and a handful of features that set it apart -- especially smooth terrain and cartoon-style rendering. It also does nice texture blending, animated water, raytraced lighting, random terrain generation, ore veins, and a bunch of other stuff. The plan is to get it finished! Pronto! Right now, my to do list looks sorta like this... Better collision detection & resolution Grappling hook object Material hardness Skeletal physics Dorfs Goblins Multiplayer support Tree object Better fluid simulation Better torch object Furnace object Anvil object Item making system Weapons Armor Ships & Cannons Other fun stuff Main goal at this stage is to have a team-based game pitting Dorfs against Goblins, with RTS elements like resource gathering and base building -- along with first person combat. Funding will help me to spend less time on work-work and more time on game-work, which will translate into a quicker release and better end product. May also hire an assistant, but we'll see...
VIDEOS (only one for now)

Now you may be asking "Shadow, how would a fine person such as myself go about procuring this fine piece of art we call a video game." Well you can't really get it right now but you can do a sort of preorder of it depending on how much money you give. For more info go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/901026204/lords-of-uberdark-3d-voxel-based-mining-building-g. Essentially you promise to pay so much but if the creator doesn't reach his goal of 20k pledged then he will receive none of the money and you won't be charged. I felt it best to post this here so that more people become aware of this and help this game seeing as FP loves indie developers.
oh, another mining/building game made by an indie company. Hooray?
I kindof agree with Kai, I mean, this looks cool and interesting considering it isnt sqaures now, but still, it seems like another product of this mining game craze lately.
Looks damn good. I love that people are still innovating on the mining concept
Saw this posted on /v/, looks pretty nice and if it gets released i'll probably get it.
Well, Terraria's saving grace was it's gear, monsters, and 2D-ness. Minecraft was the first popular one of it's class, not to mention it was improved by modders and multiplayer flexibility. This looks like it will be great mostly because it steps away from blocks and moves towards a rarely used system of destruction; Voxels. For some reason it makes me think of Dwarf Fortress. If there is more machinery/devices than minecraft, then I'll have to buy it.
Why hasn't the "this is an open world game you can destroy it and rebuild it as you please" sub-genre died yet? You can't make money off of remaking the exact same idea over and over. It's like Duke Nukem: Yeah he was cool in his time but look at how DNF turned out. The gritty sarcastic 90s action hero craze is long gone and dnf sucked because it didn't accept the death of the genre it created. This is eventually going to happen to Minecraft, Terraria, it's already happening to Infiniminer, you name it. People are already starting to move on, and it's only a matter of time before remakes like this one are the final nail in the coffin.
It lacks polish. And to be frank, I'm tired of the different spins on Minecraft.
It'll almost be like the Clock 3D that was never made.

Infiniminer was dead long before minecraft got popular. In fact the only reason infiniminer isn't completely forgotten is because minecraft restarted interest in the genre.
Looks neat. It has that freedom of shape that terraria and minecraft (obviously) didn't.
nice another mining game how unique!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks neat. It has that freedom of shape that terraria and minecraft (obviously) didn't.
I hope you can still place blocks though, because you wouldn't want all your buildings looking like when Notch did this:
I hope you can still place blocks though, because you wouldn't want all your buildings looking like when Notch did this:
Well the blocks are pretty straight but making all the walls equal depth and such will be next to impossible without a proper system.
Reminds me more of Celestial Impact than minecraft.
I doubt it won't have a lock to grid thing when it's finished, should be easy to make nice smooth stuff. Or maybe it'll be like a large scale realtime multiplayer game of Worms 3d. ...in fact the very idea of something so chaotic and hilarious makes me happy.
What is with that name? Lords of Uberdark?
What's with all the hate? It genuinely looks good, and you never know how good it is until you try it.
What is with that name? Lords of Uberdark?
You won't be forgetting it any time soon.
This actually looks incredibly awesome.
edit: I learn something new everyday, Minecraft uses voxels for terrain.
I doubt it will he'll receive 20,000 by august 7th. Unless notch donates. He said he likes the game. In fact he promoted it on his twitter.
PLEDGE $10 OR MORE Will receive a registered copy of the game. Several versions will be made available as the work progresses through alpha, beta and release stages. First version (alpha) will be made available in early August.
I might pledge for once I think, I guess around 15$ or so then.
I like this project, it is so awesome!

I like the concept so far, but it looks like it needs a lot of polishing. Especially on the HUD imo.
Minecraft could appeal to the OCD crowd because you dealt with blocks, but looking at that video of construction... Things could get messy!
I hope there'll be some sort of toggleable grid mechanism, otherwise it seems as if construction would be incredibly aggravating in this.
I do believe we may have found the beginnings of the Dwarf fortress 3d engine.
