Endermen or Farlanders? - Games

Allright, most of you probably already knows this but to you who doesn't, Notch is considering a namechange for the new mob Enderman. So a poll has been created on the Minecraft forums about the two names. In my opinion Enderman is a nonsense name that doesn't do the mystical mob justice. makes it more goofy than anything else. Farlander on the other hand takes a direct reference to Minecrafts very own mystical lore about the glitchy lands where the map stops generating land correctly. The reason why i didn't take this up in the Enderman theory thread is because i want this topic to be spotted by more people and not just the few that posts in that thread. Help the Farlander to get his correct name!

Why must we choose another name? Endermen is a beautiful name, albeit not original but it fits what they are. Farlanders would make new players confused as to why they would be called that, because new players would not know what the "Farlands" are. I mean, i've never seen one person argue against the name of the creeper by saying something like "Well why aren't they called Exploders since all they do is explode?", the only reference to the names i've ever heard from people is "Oh, that's why they're called creepers because they're always creeping behind you to fuck your shit up!" So, all in all, stop being bitchy, and let it go, chances are you won't give a shit anyway about the name of them.

I just don't understand why people even want it's name changed. It won't do anything to gameplay, and the endermen will still stare you down, teleport, and attack regardless of it's name. It will still be a creepy feature of the game regardless.

How is the tweet they are quoting even vaguely suggesting that he will change it? If anything it's just that he is acknowledging that people want it changed and then making a joke about it.

Farlanders is such a generic name though, Endermen has a far greater air of mystery to it.

Farlanders sounds like an extremely generic fairy tale name.

But I like Farlanders. Enderman is just stupid, and sort of ruins it's creepyness.

Dracula has become such a joke now that a vampire bearing that name would be played for laughs, not fear. But say the name Nosferatu and it's like biting into a lemon, there you have something. Same situation here really.

Endermen at least sounds more original than Farlanders. I've always considered the Far Lands to be something that exists, but is out of my reach. I wouldn't like if something from the Far Lands was a threat; it should remain mysterious and unexplained. So yeah, I vote Endermen.

Farlander is a fairly cheesy name and doesn't roll off the tongue well, but refers to a completely fan-made special ingame feature. It was in no way intentional, but what makes it special and mythical is what the players made it as. In reality there's nothing special about it, but the fans made it so. Similar to herobrine. (Also, it's probably as well known as him as well) Endermen sounds kind of fitting in how it looks creeper, but at the same time it can mean pretty much anything. It's up to interpretation, but it's easy to come up with a variety of simple explanations. It also rolls off the tongue well, and something I like about names like this is it isn't a full on description - You can't call it "Farlands" because that wouldn't make sense", and so Farlander describes it as something that comes from the farlands. A skeleton is a name, like Endermen. (Unless you say they are "ending"). Of course I might be a hypocrit because I love the name creeper and creepers creep. Also, it's always somewhat irrelevent because you never actually see the mob's names ingame. People usually naturally name certain mobs, like zombie, pig, chicken, ect because that's what they look like and they're well know creatures, (that's what it used to be like with items as well) but since things like creepers and endermen don't really resemble much people will usually describe them as like "green penis" or "tall black things" untill they hear their names from the community.

Why are people bitching about changing Endermen to Farlanders? Just change the Far Lands to The End v:v:v Fuck Notch beat me to that joke! cheeky bastard!

The name Endermen seems related to Slenderman. And the Endermen look like Slenderman.

Let's just call them Spooks.

Call it whatever you want, why do people go to this much trouble to change its "real" name? Endermen sounds fine.
