Hello i'm getting a poor fps of around 15 to 20. I have a xps 17. Specs Windows 7 64 bit Intelt Core i7-2720QM cpu 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz I have 6 gigs of ram And the graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce GT 555M Yes I did update my graphics card On my old computer with 3 gigs of ram and dual core processor I could get 60 fps + Anyone knows any solutions?
There's too many excess frames that it bogged down the VGA/DVI/HDMI cable of your monitor. EDIT: Guys, it's a joke. EDIT 2: A bad one.
There's too many excess frames that it bogged down the VGA/DVI/HDMI cable of your monitor.
Could also mention it that it is a laptop. But it can run crysis 2
laptop... this is the answer.download optifog.
Get Optifine
Tried the performance - max fps?
Its a laptop. That is your issue. Also a Gtx 555M isn't very good, seeing as if anything thats slightly worse than a 460M.
What exactly is optifog? Also thank you all for helping me so much
One of the main problems I've found with laptops is the lack of cooling. Buy a cooling pad for it and remove the battery cover so the heat can escape easily.
Thanks DimJim. Also to the others. I installed the mod and it works perfect! Thank you all!
You shouldn't have a problem to begin with, my i5 and Nvidia GT 420 laptop (Also a Dell XPS) runs vanilla Minecraft at the highest allowed settings with a solid 60FPS framerate.
Its a laptop. That is your issue. Also a Gtx 555M isn't very good, seeing as if anything thats slightly worse than a 460M.
Wow, mega dumb. A GTX 555M is pretty damn good. It's faster than a desktop 8800GT, and I used to run minecraft at 1080p with full view distance at 60+fps with one of them. The issue isn't with his setup, which is quite frankly an absolute beast of a laptop, it's with the default configuration of the laptop. OP, go into the nvidia control panel and go into "Manage 3D settings" Next, under global settings you need to go to preferred graphics processor drop down and select the high power nvidia one like so The reason you have to do this, is that the Dell XPS laptops have an intel graphics card as well as the nvidia one. This is because it can get much greater battery life by using the intel one for the desktop and non-demanding things. By changing this, you are basically saying "I want to use the nvidia card for all 3d stuff" pretty much. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline]
Thanks DimJim. The fact that it-s a laptopt doesent matter. I-m getting steady 600 fps on minecraft with max draw distance and 64x texture pack on my laptop..

I guess that's a typo and you mean 60fps.

It's java and java sucks, sucks even worse on a Laptop... Laptops are not designed for games, buy a proper PC.

Do the forum a favour and only try and comment on subjects you actually have some knowledge of.
I'm pretty sure that my laptop is "one of the best" on the market right now. I could be wrong. Thanks a lot Jallen, I tried this before but I went to "Program Settings" and selected java.exe only to do the high perfomance trick. However that did nothing. I tried to do it globally now, thank you !
Sorry to tell you, laptops with dynamic graphics don't have opengl support. I found out the hard way and can't return my laptop because of it. HP released a bios update that disabled the dynamic features, but I don't know any other company's that did it. I heard Nvida's dynamic can be disabled from the control panel and get minecraft to work.

Jesus christ the amount of dumbness on this thread frightens me. The only posts which made sense are Jallens', Cypher100s' and the ones whom recommended Optimods whatever. Get your facts straight people. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline]
I'm pretty sure that my laptop is "one of the best" on the market right now. I could be wrong. Laptops usually downclock your processor's/gpu's performance whenever it wants to consume less energy, so try to force it to performance on energy settings (can't remember the proper name on Win7 though, but it's on the control panel, that's for sure), that will fix it forever, until you change that one setting back to however it was before. Doing what Jallen said only solved your GPU being downclocked, but not your CPU's downclock.

How is this feature called because there are tons of other things I can change. Also thanks fingers!!! i will try to do that now
Its a laptop. That is your issue. Also a Gtx 555M isn't very good, seeing as if anything thats slightly worse than a 460M.
I'm on a laptop and run Minecraft at 200+ FPS. That is no reason why it would be running slow. OP, try updating your Java. Go to Java.com and get the latest one for your version of Windows. (Make sure to pick the 32/64 bit correctly!) If that doesn't work, go to your control panel, and click Java. Go the the tab that says 'Java' and click 'View'. If you updated your java correctly you should have a line that says something about Java 1.7. Double click the Runtime Parameters box and put in -Xincgc -Xmx2G. Sorry if it's already been posted. Even if your problem is already fixed the above steps can make anyone's Minecraft run better.
what was the clock speed on your old processor. I think minecraft only runs on 1 core and so if you went from a dual core 3.3 or something to a quad 2.2 then a single core game would run like shit.

I have the same problem of OP, but my specs are these: Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.110617-0336) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
