I've searched and searched for the thread that I know is somewhere on here, and cannot find it.
So here's my attempt at a thread for discussing IVAN, one of the few single player games I've fallen in love with. (Although I am not the least bit good at it.)
Here's what the website's intro is, I'm kind of at a loss of what to include in the OP.
Fellow adventurer, turn back while you can! For here begins the roguelike Iter Vehemens ad Necem, a Violent Road to Death. If you choose to travel along it, you will dive into countless exciting adventures to gain items of great magic, attain powerful equipment made of mysterious materials, bathe in the blessings of mighty gods and recruit loyal allies of various shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, along the way you will also often be dangerously injured, poisoned, catch numerous diseases, lose several limbs and transform into manifold different kinds of pitiful creatures in the darkest depths of hostile dungeons. And, at the end of the road, you are bound to perish in a most gruesome and painful way. Don't say we didn't warn you.
If anything should be added here, I'd be glad to do so.
Better yet, if the proper thread is found this one can be buried!
Please show me I'm not the only Facepuncher who enjoys this game immensely. <:3
I remember playing this game a few months ago, a bird bit my crotch off until I died.
A spider web tore my dick off.
game is bad it has graphics :downs:
Made a thread about this already with a whole bunch of other roguelikes. Hope this gets more notice since IVAN is so much fun to play, even if dying is the key point of it.
It's not fun vomiting yourself to death while unconscious while stuck in a spider web while getting attacked by brown slimes and a greater magic mushroom :v:
I was crawling around with missing limbs until I opened a trapped door that blew up and destroyed my wand of resurrection, causing the magic to flow out and regenerate my limbs. In other words, I got my limbs blown on.
I either die of exhaustion or starvation. I'm okay at managing skills, but have no idea how to get a deity.
You gotta find a book or shrine for them then pray.
I haven't played that long but after I moved to another part of a dungeon I got swarmed in on both sides of me in a 1 block tall hallway by 7 plants. Made me go wtf. RIGHT AFTER I came up the stairs.
This game is impossible to beat without using wizard mode
-snip-
wtf
where are the graphics!!!!
im going back to call of duty this sucks

It is possible, it just takes time. But there are other ways to beat the game aside from killing [sp]Elpuri[/sp]. I can't speak for myself though. Farthest I've gotten was to Attnam.
I spent like an hour playing this and my game crashed when I tried to repair my helmet, and I didn't save. Fuck.

I can't get another good start now, I always die on the first room. Keep playing until I get it I guess.

I prayed to a god and he zapped all my body parts off and then transformed me into a jackall.
[editline]18th March 2011[/editline]
Everything was going alright and then my cat jumped on the keyboard and it crashed.
Has this game been updated at all recently? My only real gripe with it is the size of the game world is disappointingly small. I suppose it doesn't matter that much because you'll be dying too often to really explore but I'd like the possibility.
http://www.attnam.com/wiki/IVAN_3D 3D mod for the game, also includes sound.

I polymorphed into a plant and got killed by a hedgehog because I couldn't take my turn or move.
[editline]18th March 2011[/editline]
And a bear just came out of fucking nowhere after 2 hours of playing, I got a teleportation staff so I hit it and it teleported away...by one square. Dead.
Someone please tell me, how the fuck do you play this game succesfully?
How strong are Goblin Berserkers?

Well, you dont.
Seriously.
I've never gotten past the screaming monster in the cave that the king sends you to after giving him the scroll. It always kills me before I can even see it with its screaming. Tried dozens of times.

I found a dragon hide armor in the starting cave once
I once lost an arm in this game by using some weapon with a name that exploded when I hit something with it.
I prayed to a God and he gave me a new arm.
An arm made of fucking glass.
thanks jackass.

The way i beat that dude is to go down there as light as possible (Leave all shit upstairs in a box) take armour, a good weapon, trolls blood (IN A TIN!) a good wand and a scroll of detect material.
Use the scroll and type in enner beast flesh and you'll find out where he is instantly. Then hunt him down, zap with wands and if that doesn't kill him you'll have to melee, but at that range you'll only get about two hits before he kills you.

Well I'm going to start playing again but can anyone give me some tips for playing? And is it actually possible to keep your dog alive for any length of time?

I recommend Wizard Mode.
Is there a way to heal your body parts besides praying? Usually I'll die from a torso wound before I learn of a god.
An Angel killed me while I tried to pray to get my missing arm and leg back.
I don't even know how to move...

Arrow keys or numpad.

Usually resting will heal it eventually, unless the part in question is actually missing, in which case no amount of resting will regrow that part.
The key for which is h.
how i 360 noscope?
